I don’t agree with everything Burzum does; it annoys me how he constantly renounces his past. At first, he defined himself as a Satanist, then he decided he was pagan, then he stopped caring about the mystical aspect and moved on to politics. I don’t know if he’s a Nazi, but he is definitely strongly nationalist. I didn’t know that the tracks at the end of the day hadn’t been re-recorded.

And now let's talk about the Vikerness situation: not only have I never held it against him for his actions, but I admit I've also laughed about it many times. The good Burzum didn’t take out a nice guy who built little houses for birds; he killed a guy who was polluting planet Earth. Should I be sorry? Why on earth! Aarseth may not have killed anyone, but he didn't hesitate for a moment to use his dead friend for his sad economic purposes (because that's what it’s about, there's no point in talking about madness or nonsense like that). Furthermore, I find it absolutely shameful that Euronymous's parents, fully aware of their son's activities, wanted the bass tracks for De Mysteriis to be re-recorded. It’s more or less like if Pacciani’s family had demanded state funerals.

So death, I still say that in De Mysteriis I hear much more thrash than in Under a Funeral Moon or in Pure Holocaust or in Ablaze in the Northern Sky (I won't mention Diabolical Fullmoon because there I still hear quite a bit of it). As you rightly say, the attitude of Mayhem was much less Black than that of Darkthrone, Burzum, and even Immortal (whom I want to clarify I consider clowns). Honestly, I don’t see all that much importance in Deathlike Silence. I think it's not so strange that everyone knew each other since in Norway there are only a few people and the Norwegian Blacksters at the time were just a handful. I believe that Aarseth's fame is due solely to the nonsense he did to get attention and not to his actual musical significance. That, if anything, came later, after he caught attention as the crazy guy of the moment. I've always believed that De Mysteriis kicked off the most crude and soulless Black.

So why don't you call yourself NewstedGod? Anyway, let's move on to Voivod. They're a band I don't mind, but they've never really grabbed me that much. I'm not familiar with the album, I stopped at their earlier works. The review is excellent as always.

1: Mayhem with Deathcrush and Pure Fucking Armageddon have pushed Thrash to its extremes, moving it towards Black. Wrong, Bathory had already done it in '84, and Sarcofago did it on the other side of the world the same year. Point number two: Mayhem released the first true Black album. Wrong. First of all, it comes chronologically after "Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism," "Ablaze in the Northern Sky," "Under a Funeral Moon," and "Burzum/Aske." Secondly, I find the above-mentioned records to be much more Black than Mayhem. Don't get me wrong, but I believe that Mayhem are the last Thrash band, not the first Black. 3: Mayhem orchestrated the Black metal movement. Wrong, the Inner Circle, assuming it ever existed, was just the only stroke of genius by Euronymous, who seized the opportunity to show off a bit, but from a musical standpoint, it didn’t account for shit.

ah ah ah! Is my comment enough? NO. Musical joke for a band I've always hated. I'll say more, today I feel like stirring the pot. I consider Mayhem historically insignificant for the evolution of extreme metal, and I can defend my positions with valid reasons. Bring it on.

What can I say. A guy photographed his friend half decapitated; I see really gruesome covers every day, but this is one of the few that bothers me. I can't hide that Vikerness has my admiration for what he has done.
