Pixies Surfer Rosa

Well, between "Surfer Rosa" and "Doolittle," it's always difficult to choose; they're both masterpieces. They are extremely different albums... yet "Doolittle" has a wider range of solutions while still preserving their frenzy for me: "Debaser" docet.

I am viscerally in love with both Pixies and Dinosaur Jr, a fantastic Boston derby: I believe they are both the best of their time. I can only admit that in the "nephews of Neil Young" category, Mascis is much more gifted than Francis: Dinosaur Jr were (and are) a one-man band, while Pixies relied on various factors (Kim Deal’s melodic sense, Santiago’s prickly guitar playing were fundamental)... in terms of influence on their epigones, I think they’re pretty evenly matched.

Yes, in fact for me indie-rock is more confined as a field (Pixies, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., and then Nirvana as the main flag bearers, as I hinted in the article). ....if we broaden the discussion, we move into alternative rock....even a band like Hüsker Dü: how to define them? They were among the main inspirations for indie-rock, but they have a hardcore soul and a writing ability of great depth.... precisely: a mess hehehe.

I think it's pointless to find a definitive definition of indie-rock, especially during a period like the late '80s when all the cards and genres were mixed up... everyone has their own idea and they hold on to it.

Damn, it must be the link system of that site that's messing up... try again with this one, it needs to combine the final 72 (instead, as it's reported, it becomes a separated 7 2)... link rotto

A fruitful year, 1988: in addition to the albums mentioned by alessioiride, I would add "Ultramega OK" by Soundgarden and "Nothing's Shocking" by Jane's Addiction among those that brilliantly rejuvenated rock in the Land of the Free.... as for the Pixies, everything has already been said on this site: essential. If anyone is interested in taking a look, I wrote a monograph on Santiago and company: you can find it here link rotto

Thanks again to everyone. @bartleboom, I'm glad I could give you some tips, and I hope to read more of your reviews soon. @blackdog, yes, even if just before Freedom there was the excellent EP "Eldorado"! @larianna56, I only write as a hobby, and I'm really enjoying it here. Thank you for the appreciation anyway!
