Well, I would say we agree on post-95 Corgan: there's not much to save. However, it seems unfair to me that his dislike and disasters like "Adore" overshadow the excellent first three albums.

@Mien. I also prefer "Gish" and "Siamese Dream." "Mellon Collie" is too inconsistent and has way too many tracks on the playlist, but I fully embrace easycure's perspective. Despite this grandeur sought out with a lantern, it is a work symbolizing the ambiguity and splendors of the '90s. The rest has definitely been subpar, but what I wanted to emphasize is that Corgan, despite his poses, the t-shirts with "Zero" written on them, and phrases like "God is empty just like me," is certainly on a higher level compared to someone like Alexakis. I also love Screaming Trees; in fact, I reviewed "Buzz Factory": if you like that type of grunge, I recommend Truly, you will definitely appreciate them.

Uhm this time I don't agree with my friend Nevskji. -"The issue is rather tied to what they did afterward, that is much more than the various Corgan and hilariously overrated buddies"-...are you referring to the album "Freak," with the initial "slave" that plagiarized "I don’t know anything" by Mad Season, or to the following album, with a piece identical to "Tonight, tonight" by the Smashing Pumpkins? Come on, all these bands, as easycure rightly says, should be forgotten quickly.

I’m not quite clear why you talk so much about Corgan in this review; you probably don’t love the SPs. It’s well known that Coccia Pelata was (also) a poseur, a cynic who never hid his ambition for success (iconic phrase: "If I were dead/ Would my records sell?"). But he was undeniably a quintessential musician of the 90s, because albums like "Siamese Dream" or "Mellon Collie" didn’t come from just any loser (and the latter is from '95, so something better than Everclear was indeed charting during the '94-’96 period, contrary to what you say). Moreover, I believe the sound mixture of those records is still thriving and critically acclaimed. People only remember Everclear’s works if they have the passion to explore every nook of the 90s as you do brilliantly, with the precision and expertise of a musical archaeologist.

Hi Grant. Are you sure that "crack in the Union Jack" was entirely composed by Bret? When the album came out, I remember that in an interview he was asked if the caustic lyrics referred to the disappointment with the early years of the Blair government. He said he couldn't answer the question because the lyrics were drafted by the keyboardist. If it's as you say, he told that lie to avoid controversy, eheh. As for "Coming up," I find it syrupy and a bit too Britpop for my taste; the real Suede, for me, ends with "Dog man star" (which I indeed reviewed) and which I still listen to every now and then.
