Well, no doubt about it,,, in the rock navarro fantasy league, it’s Kakà, Frusciante at his best, Simplicio...

I completely agree with Tabba: Navarro tried to revitalize the sound of the Red Hot with a hard-psychedelic sheen, as after Blood Sugar Sex Magik the Peppers' formula had become almost unassailable... He didn’t succeed perfectly; there are a few stumbling tracks, but songs like "Warped," "One Hot Minute," or "Shallow Be Thy Game" are exceptional. This album is definitely better than any of those that came later with Frusciante's return... For those who appreciate Navarro, I recommend checking out the phenomenal album by Deconstruction released in 1994, which I recently reviewed.

I also discovered XTC through Primus, who were one of my favorite bands as a kid... Moulding's style had a huge influence on Claypool. But XTC were not just great musicians.

@ pretazzo. I wasn’t referring to anything in particular, though I think albums like those by Ultravox or Throbbing Gristle – which were celebrated at the time – may have aged worse, too tied to sound solutions that quickly became obsolete (although in the case of TG they might have seeded other experiments, particularly overseas). Then again, I’m from ’77, so I didn’t experience that era firsthand. I just wanted to remind everyone that back then, XTC were considered a bit of a rarity, a bunch of "posers" (easycure is right about that), but in the end, I think they were the ones who had the last laugh. As for easycure, I’m not sure if they were soulless. They definitely aren’t among my favorite bands, partly because they’ve never given me much in terms of lyrics or imagery (which usually fills large spaces in my reviews), and in their case, it was a bit of tiresome British humor and not much else. However, in this particular album, the blend of pop pyrotechnics and new wave spirit produced a truly remarkable work, one that can be listened to with wonder and pleasure even today.

for the editors: in the first line there is an extra "their," could you please remove it, thank you?

Great review, Joe: the album is a classic, for me only inferior to Angel Dust in their discography.
