Because, in my opinion, there is no particular acting talent that shines through in her performances. In what I've seen of Monroe, in most cases she played roles that were tailor-made for her. A bit like various Stallone and Schwarzenegger who always play indestructible macho-action figures.

No, I saw the film and honestly it doesn't seem like much to me. Completely replaceable. An actor I consider irreplaceable could be Al Pacino in "Dog Day Afternoon," for example.

"Some Like It Hot" is a great movie, and Jack Lemmon dancing the tango dressed as a woman until dawn is simply genius. Thanks to Lemmon, Curtis, and Wilder, not at all thanks to Monroe. After all, nobody's perfect! :DDD
