Anyway Ghemison, that doesn’t change the fact that, in the end, what really matters is the music. Wrong labels or not, what’s important is what reaches the ear, whether it’s indie, grunge, or industrial...that’s why the ongoing discussions about genres are quite futile, in my opinion.

Holy cow, are the Arctic Monkeys really that famous? It seems unbelievable, but I’ve never listened to them... I’m just not up to date with the trends anymore... :)))

Anyway, Alessio, most of the labels given to groups are vague and misleading, including indie, including post-rock, not to mention new wave. Television, Pere Ubu, Suicide, Wire are all new wave, but they have nothing to do with each other, except for the quality of the music.

True, labels are only useful for broadly categorizing a group. If teenagers nowadays want to act "emo" to look cool (...but really?) that's their problem. I've been listening to many types of music for years, and honestly, I couldn’t care less about categorization. For example, how do you categorize a band like the Residents? It’s impossible, so to make it easier, you put it into two such wide pots that they only serve to give an idea of what to expect: NEW WAVE and AVANTGARDE ROCK.

I'm sorry Alessio, I'm having problems with my computer and I can't look at the multimedia files...what is it?

I don't think there is a precise explanation. The best thing to do is to try listening to some of the bands (which I mentioned earlier) and some of the early emocore (like Embrace). Emo should mean "emotional," referring to bands that use strong and catchy melodies in their songs.

The emo-rock bands of recent years don't impress me much. In the mid-nineties, however, there were quite a few interesting acts: Get Up Kids (the first 2 albums, now they really suck), Promise Ring (same) and Mineral were very valid bands...
