"...Parker makes me die, after him it's darkness" ---> yes, it's a bullshit... :D

!...and they are also peers, both from the class of 1930.

What a gentleman, Ornette... and he is almost 80 years old...

A very pleasant and inspired review. I’ve never listened to Ornette post '60s, so I’ll have to catch up. I was able to "appreciate" good Denardo Coleman on YouTube; he was engaged in an introduction/solo on drums... every snare hit was a disaster, zero groove, basically an absurd mess. I understand he’s his son, but at a certain point you just want to send him to till the soil... :D

Anyway, you’re right, Tony Williams is one of the greatest drummers, in every sense, that I've ever heard. Davis's second quintet wouldn’t have been the same without him. And he was just 20 years old... :o

Sorry Conte, I wrote "Crystal," but I've already listened to it and I like it a lot. I made a mistake; I meant to say "Contours" and "Fuchsia Swing Song"... and since you mentioned it, I'll add that one to the shopping list too. Thank you very much! p.s.= how many damn records do I have on the shopping list? I’ve always spent a fortune on records, but my passion is so strong that I can't do otherwise... besides, having jazz records downloaded from the computer is truly a blasphemy, as far as I'm concerned. I mean, can you imagine, when it arrives at your house, unwrapping it, listening to it, and flipping through the booklet? :D

But, in my opinion, there are no specific albums to enter the world of jazz. You listen to something (maybe by Coltrane or Davis) and immediately understand whether it's a genre that suits you or not.

True, Shepp has been one of the most determined advocates for the freedom of African Americans. Among other things, in one of his albums (specifically Fire Music) there’s a track dedicated to Malcolm X. By the way: Conte, what would you recommend from Sam Rivers? I was planning to buy "Crystal" and "Contours"... what do you think, am I making a good choice?

Anyway, Zion, Shepp's masterpiece, according to many, is "Mama Too Tight," which is truly stunning.

Nice review. I only have (alas) "Mama Too Tight" and "The Way Ahead" (BEAUTIFUL by the way) by Shepp. Anyway, he's a great saxophonist. Tchicai and Rudd can be heard in the same year on "New York Eye and Ear Control" by Albert Ayler. I plan to buy "Fire Music" and "Attica Blues" soon, as they speak very highly of them.
