Comparisons can be made based on historical significance. Between genres, it becomes much more difficult. How can one say that "La Buona Novella" is more beautiful than the debut of Black Sabbath, or vice versa? These are TOTALLY different things. On what basis can comparisons be made? On originality and historical importance, and that's it. Comparisons fit much better and are more intelligent when made within the same genre.
