I must say, Muffin, that "Ah Um" is an album that doesn't particularly excite me; I prefer other works by Mingus. Of course, Goodbye and Fables are stunning... but overall, I listen to the album rarely; maybe I find it too heterogeneous, there's a bit of everything in this record, perhaps I can't seem to find the common thread... :D

"Would they sell themselves out for money?"---> Do you think Colaiuta cares if the album by Rossi that he plays on is good or total crap? Not at all... it's just routine for him, after all, he's a session musician. Colaiuta has personal projects where he plays the music he loves.

Vasco's fans have been lobotomized, there's no other explanation! I don't think you need a refined ear to understand that the albums Rossi keeps releasing are liquid crap. I've never liked him, but at least his stuff from the early '80s had something "vaguely" decent about it. "Stupido Hotel," "Buoni e cattivi," etc., are UNLISTENABLE! Trivial, mediocre, boring, and the list goes on. Not to mention Rossi's fake-transgressive act that now makes me want to vomit! All this for the joy of the labels that are making billions at the expense of the fools. After all, as long as people think they can discover and follow music through what's played on the radio, we're in trouble...

Ah ok, at first glance the sentence seemed sincere to me, but upon rereading it, it felt somewhat ironic. :D Anyway, you're right, Shepp has a beautiful and versatile sax sound, but, in my opinion, he shines the most in the freer parts.

I don't understand if only the second sentence of comment n° 98 is ironic or if the first one is too. :)

Well, I like Ayler's album, it's just that listening to the whole thing is a tough task... :D

I have to say that one of the few free records I can't listen to all the way through (even though I like it) is "New York Eye and Ear Control" by Albert Ayler (featuring Don Cherry, Tchicai, Rudd, Peacock, and Murray). This album has also been used as a soundtrack (!!!). Well, it's an unstoppable "free" hurricane; imagine an even more uncompromising "Free jazz" by Coleman.

Great Goodman!...I started out with Sonny Rollins (about five years ago), with his mid-'50s records ("Moving Out," "Worktime," "Plus 4"). I've never followed specific steps, I've always "tried" things at random, even though I quickly gravitated towards free jazz due to my passion for "extreme" listening. One of my first records was "Mama Too Tight" by Archie Shepp, phenomenal yet prickly...:D
