Antonio, you’re right, comparing such different musicians (genius) probably doesn’t serve any purpose, but one cannot deny the difference in stature (musical) between a Pastorius and a Coltrane. Without taking anything away from Jaco, who has been a key figure in electric bass.

As for the Weather, this album doesn't really resonate with me. I definitely prefer "Black Market" and "Heavy Weather," maybe because they're catchier. Of course, I prefer Shorter as a solo artist or with Davis, that's for sure.

"The killer riffs, the deadly groove, the destructive power are something that everyone seems to have in this genre"... I don't agree, Stoney; there are few bands that can truly boast these characteristics. Many are said to have them, but there are really only a handful of truly valid bands in this sense, and, as far as I remember, Dying Fetus are one of them.

Damn! If you're telling me it's worth getting more of Morgan's albums, I can only make it a priority to get them soon. By the way, if I'm not mistaken, Blue Note has just recently remastered some of his albums.

Hold on! There's something off: there are different pieces of information about the bass on the album Black Market online: some sources say that in that album Jaco plays on 2 tracks and the rest are played by Johnson (including "Black Market"), while others mention exclusively Jaco. Who's right? :D

@Antonio: "Black Market" features Alphonso.

"Coltrane never thought of 'astonishing' others. He just did it!" ... I fully agree.

This album rocks, in fact I'm putting it back in the player after such a long time.

Great review, excellent work by Morgan, as well as the only one I have of the great trumpeter. For those who are interested (even just to start) in jazz, I further reinforce Mullah's advice: bringing home the CDs from the Blue Note catalog at 5.90 euros is a deal not to be missed, I assure you.
