But we know that Silver's screenplays are somewhat lacking; the beauty is that he managed to turn films with clichéd plots into small masterpieces. Deep Red itself isn’t exactly a great screenplay either. That’s why he was a great director; the atmospheres, the cinematography, the suspense in his films have made history, technically flawless. Now, lacking these factors, only the plots remain, and we have truly modest films. Anyway, poor Asia Argento, her martyrdom began with the film "La Chiesa," in which her skull gets smashed. Then, in subsequent films, she would graciously offer herself to us all. The psychological relationship between Argento father and daughter would be worth studying; it’s certainly not normal.

But why compare "Smiles of a Summer Night" to Bergman's other works? Taken alone, the film deserves a 5; even compared to global cinema, it's a 5. Mature and self-aware Bergman begins with "Smiles of a Summer Night" and "The Seventh Seal," without which the subsequent masterpieces wouldn't exist. I say this because I've seen some films by Bergman that preceded these two, and while they are beautiful, they don't yet have the depth of these two. So a 5, okay, maybe they're not the best, but in my opinion, it deserves a 5.

Mister Gigi, in a horror film, the plot is secondary to the fear, the atmosphere, and the suspense that one wants to create. Any enthusiast, not only of horror but of cinema in general, will tell you that Suspiria is a feast for the eyes (besides, the final minutes are among the most terrifying I have ever seen in a horror film). It seems strange to me that you have watched Dario Argento's past films and hold such a negative opinion, because then it must be the genre that doesn't suit you, as Bava, Fulci, and Argento were among the best not only in Italy but in the world (in the horror genre).

For once, I agree with Poletti. This film deserves a 5, and while you might argue that Bergman has made better ones, that doesn't take away from the fact that this is a masterpiece. The puritanism and the 19th-century aspects that you, sanjuro, see in the film, in my opinion, are elegance and reflection on a theme that indeed demands delicacy (a quality that many current films lack, astonishing without substance).

I can't consider Boldi a comedian or rather, his humor is useful for a 6-year-old child. Let's say he earns a few points with De Sica (whom I don’t mind too much in some of his old films) as a sidekick or when he plays the Milanese in contrast to the Roman (basically, it has a purpose; otherwise, it’s embarrassing). This film is a mix of gags and vulgarity, some of which are even funny, but it lacks substance; it’s like a condom—you use it and then throw it away. The acting is pathetic, in short, it’s everything and more.

thanks to your previous review on Dreyer regarding Joan of Arc, I discovered this great director. Great review!
Vanadium Game Over

In the rock scene, the Vanadium were among the few Italian bands in the 80s that were distributed in foreign markets (especially the American one, which loved those sounds) and they enjoyed decent success, so they should be at least remembered for this and for the amusing character of Pino Scotto (the other day his vaffanculo was even aired on Raitre's Blob). Instead, they are mostly known only in metal circles, even though they edge closer to the genre, but it's not that they are exactly metal. From the concerts I've heard and seen live, it can be said that they play simple and damn rock'n roll, hard rock, with some very distant AOR traces!

I read a bit of the plot, and I particularly liked the actor (who in my opinion has never made banal or low-quality films; whether good or bad, they always got people talking), so I rushed to the cinema. I completely agree with your rating and your remarks. Nothing exhilarating, but at least it’s not a decent film like "Van Helsing," which is just special effects. There’s a plot, and the actor is credible as usual. Nothing transcendent, but there’s a lot worse out there; still, it’s watchable. This film had the potential to be an excellent movie; it chose to play it safe and ended up being a respectable work.
