It may be true, Masahiro, but take an album like ...And Justice for All, the first one featuring Newsted: the bass is practically absent! I don't know about live performances. In the studio, I don't consider it essential; I think Cliff Burton brought an extra edge. Anyway, I like Newsted, also because he had the courage to leave Metallica, because he wanted a band where he could express himself freely and play some good, fucking metal, and he chose Voivod, much less famous and not millionaires. How many would have left Metallica, who are swimming in dollars? Few or none!

I don't know Trujillo as a bassist, even though I know you made a splash with Suicidal Tendencies. Newsted is as nice as they come, but he never mattered in terms of the compositions. I never heard the bass in the albums he played on!

absolute masterpiece. Pardon me is stellar, but the whole album is magnificent. It may lack the madness and genius of SCIENCE, but the album is objectively without a weak point.
