Clan of Xymox Farewell
Voto:
Hi Hypno, welcome back to you too.
Clan of Xymox changed their name to Xymox after their first two albums in the mid-80s, namely the self-titled debut and "Medusa," which, whatever Vortex says :-), are two excellent historical records for darkwave, especially the second one.
Thus began their period defined as technopop, marked by the first two albums (Twist of Shadows, by the way, which I reviewed, is a good album) and Phoenix (nothing exceptional), very commercial (especially the second one) along with some other mediocre electrodance works.
Since 1997, Xymox returned to calling themselves "Clan of Xymox" and hardened their sound quite a bit, returning to electronics mixed with industrial and EBM, while infusing their works with ballads, some excellent, others negligible.
All the albums from their recent period, in my opinion, are valid, particularly the last two, because they further accelerate the sound, even though the perhaps more well-known one is "Notes from Underground" from 2001.
Although I've done a lot of research, so far, I haven't found any other group similar to Clan of Xymox that is equally important, precisely because they represent a middle ground of various styles (electronica, darkwave, EBM, industrial, rock).
I also have the Rosetta Stone album on CD somewhere, bought second-hand; at first, it really grabbed me (in fact, I gave it 4 stars), but after further listens, I've considerably downgraded it due to too many references to the music of Sisters of Mercy (essentially, in my opinion, they are yet another set of clones).
Currently, I would give it a 2.
I listened to some of Danse Society but wasn't really impressed, yet since I find positive comments, I promise that I will happily revisit them sooner or later.
Even Love Like Blood didn't blow me away; they seem like a gothic metal band, from what I remember.
As for Sisters of Mercy, I can't help you since I have their three studio albums, by the way on cassette, and no compilation.
Thanks for the comment, and talk to you soon.

Well Qzerty, they probably exaggerated, but it's still better than the historic center of Taranto, which is literally falling apart and whose renovation has been at a standstill for decades due to chronic lack of funds. But was the new demodè what was once called Snoopy?

Okay Qzerty, I registered Delerium and Clock Dva. What bad luck, when I was in Bari I went a few times to both the Taverna and Target (which, if I'm not mistaken, used to have another name), but I never came across a night like that. I don't know this New Demodè, though. It’s true, however, that in recent years (around the time I left), Bari has seen some development in terms of venues and events. Imagine, I returned home when the historic center had nothing yet. Alright, I let myself get carried away by nostalgia, I’ll say goodbye. P.S.: Vortex, the invitation is still valid for you.

By the way, qzerty, where?

Thank you tier.
Qzerty, I was thinking of writing the review of Viva, beautiful album, with few weak moments.
The Danse don't really catch my interest while I listened to the album by Frozen Autumn and they seem too indebted to Clan of Xymox.
Give me some names of something more electro.

Hi Qzerty, what a pleasure, it’s been more than a year since we last crossed paths, how’s it going?
Vortex, you wrote "There's no tomorrow," which is the song of the sample, it’s something that’s been heard a million times.
Could you mention a few more names? It’s not for controversy, on the contrary, I’d love to get to know some other bands since I’m in a full electrodark phase.
Qzerty, the invitation goes to you as well.
As for gothic discos, they are nothing more than dance venues where you can groove to electrogoth, ebm, futurepop, and similar styles, packed with people in makeup and teased hair :-).
They are practically non-existent in the south, I believe there are a few in the northern regions.
They are mostly found in North America and Northern Europe, especially in Germany, where, not by coincidence, the Clan of Xymox, and many other goth groups, enjoy considerable success.
Bye bye.
