Verdena Requiem

Okay, I agree with you on one thing: "What’s beyond the usual theme of the awkward, unlucky, drunk/drugged loser for the love of whom or what?" and I don't go crazy for the lyrics either, so there are two things. However... I must say that I’ve ignored these Verdena for years, indulging in a healthy indifference towards them. Then comes “the friend” who puts a bug in my ear: “Oh, have you heard the new Verdena album?” And I’m like, “Go screw yourself and buy me a drink, will you?” “Look, they’re getting on my nerves too, but you have to listen to the album!” I listen to the album and I'm hooked. Because Requiem is a divine copy of anything by Queens of the Stone Age + bits of Motorpsycho here and there. Take songs like 'Canos' or 'Don Calisto'... pure QOTSA style, bordering on plagiarism! But damn, they rock. You arrange pieces like this if you can! The sounds are crazy, and the whole album is overflowing with good ideas (more or less copied, yes, but with great taste). Everything you write (zero technique, zero style) is what I thought about them before listening to this album. Maybe I still think that way, but it’s undeniable that Requiem is absolutely enjoyable, badass, and sharp like few other things in the Italian music scene. Seriously, this album is a bomb, and for going to the beach in Ostia on a Saturday at 3:30 PM, it’s perfect because it 'bites.' PS. I wasn’t a Verdena fan... I don’t know why... it’s none of my business...

"The wrong and bastard meeting of an infected rock, punk'n'roll with that electro-wave so dear to the eighties" and to me as well.
