Look, if you read those newspapers, then you can't complain. Not that I hold them in high regard, but I advise you to check out the best albums of that year from rumore or from the same pitchfork. It's undeniable that there are more reliable outlets than others; you just need to know how to choose. Besides, everyone has personal tastes that go beyond others' judgments. For example, in this year's pitchfork ranking of the top 10 albums, at least 3 didn't convince me at all, or they’re not in genres I prefer. That said, you wouldn't find Elephunk or something like that in there. The fact remains that the debut album by Interpol cannot be defined as a crazy crap. For me, it’s a great album, and I have my reasons for thinking so, aside from the fact that it’s in the top 3 albums of the five-year period along with the beloved Radiohead according to pitchfork. You can say you don’t like it, arguing that it’s derivative or whatever you want, but labeling it that way makes you less credible and generates only a sterile and somewhat pointless controversy.

2 years? But it's from 2002... Alias, if you can't hear the Joy Division, you're the only one in the world... of course they are not just simple epigones, but the derivation is quite evident, not only in the voice, although there are certainly less pronounced similarities at the instrumental level.

Sorry, but what does a nice album objectively mean? I mean, for me, objectively, it's not.

I wouldn't give it a 4 like in the other review, but certainly not a 1 either. It is a bit disappointing; it has a much cleaner sound than the first one, which distorts their style, and Karen's voice is less impactful. However, after listening to it a bit more, it grows on you, and that's always a positive aspect. "Déjà Vu" is a fantastic track, and that alone would be enough not to give it a 1.

Mmm... listening to it, I'm starting to like it a little bit more, but I find it too (re)polished, too perfect, in short, lacking those characteristics that made me like them in their debut album... a couple of nice tracks and not much else.
