The Mars Volta Live @ Cosmophonies, Teatro Romano di Ostia Antica, 29.07.2008

At a certain point, I saw those columns behind the stage melting or bowing—take your pick. I had never seen or heard anything like it. Omar is insane, almost scary; he’s the one pulling all the strings with that guitar, he’s the director, and there’s nothing to be done about it—it’s just how it is. Cedric looked like Robert Plant ;) we were in the heart of the '70s. Then there’s that monster behind the drums, who’s intimidating, and the thought that he’s only 25 makes me feel uneasy; he plays as if there were two people with four arms for one. Listening to Cygnus, which already lasts about twenty minutes on its own, jammed out to forty minutes at one point made me lose my breath, and I had to go down on the grass; I couldn’t stay still. That was the only flaw and the thing that left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth that I still have. Reducing it or keeping it to its twenty minutes to make space for something from De-Loused, the great absent, would have been perfection. But you know how the Volta are; you’re never quite ready for the Volta. Just think, they played Asilos Magdalena in Milan, damn. Anyway, now that I’ve heard it live, I say that The Bedlam in Goliath is a killer album, they are massive, and if they want, they can throw in a three-minute piece (Wax Simulacra) that’ll knock the stones loose. The bedlam in Ostia.

Beautiful, I listen to it on repeat; it sounds like a Pet Sound played by the Jesus&mc.

I liked the first one, it gives me a Christmas vibe with all those bells. I'll listen to this one too.

Great you and great them. What an experience it must have been. I can also see myself at fifteen with the sweet screeches of loveless in my head. Oh my, when you sleep live, what a beauty it must have been... when I look at you ohhhh...

When I listen to freak out cranked up in my room, I think about how much it has the sound of the Jesus & Mary Chain of the 2000s that I dreamed of and that will never be; this is how they should have sounded today. Crazy album, a blast in my opinion, almost better than drum's not dead, pure unevil, clear island from panic, plaster cats one of the most beautiful tracks I remember.

I arrive late but I arrive. After all, Vasco eats them all up, right? I had a lovely late winter with Le Luci Della Centrale Elettrica, too bad I couldn’t see them here in Rome at Caracalla. A big shout out, damn I liked you. Good.

I’m buzzing from the wine and I don’t even realize it! I have to listen to it; for now, only the single has caught my ears. I’ll put everything off until next week since we’re leaving tomorrow, bye gypsy, you’re always a solid five.

Hello gypsy, you know I really liked you? Effective and precise. I can feel the aromas of the East in your words; then I adore the klezmer sounds, they taste of primordial and mystery. As soon as I can, I'll write to you; in the meantime, take care..
