THE REVIEW

Weddings and Funerals

The popular music of the Balkans is perhaps much closer to us than we can imagine, Klezmer and Tarantella live with a unique spirit shared by street festivals and village fairs, street performers, weddings, and funerals, a stage overlooking the Mediterranean where family, in a broad sense, and childhood memories merge to create a sense of contamination and expand a sound universe that leads to European brotherhood beyond political and economic agreements.

The traditional instruments and Mediterranean harmonies create an atmosphere rich in sacredness that unites Puglia, Sicily, and Calabria with Greece and Albania, Romania is truly close, and a few bands' crimes are not enough to distance it; flutes, violins, and accordions bring charm and love.

Traditional music then, and migrating Indie, which spills into a heterogeneous Western identity, a child of human movements that mix origins for reasons of survival and blood lineage.

We are all gypsies because we seek our identity; each of us is a gypsy as we search for our emotion in the center of a violent and cynical society that kills any personality, no matter how strong.

"Dance party in the Balkans" is the result of work featuring collaborations such as Zach Condon of Beirut and Heather Trost of A Hawk and a Hacksaw, a work melancholic and dazzling, rich with smoky dust that reveals its fearless light in the shadow and semi-shadow of a nighttime fire.

"Dance party in the Balkans" is an Arabic tapestry where a frozen haze barely lets through the sunlight which nevertheless brings warm and romantic melodies that hide an aurora borealis with the sun setting in the east; the music reveals a vast expanse reminiscent of the steppe, but rich with pink flowers, where you can dance to the rhythm of the piano and violin. Life becomes a seductive game, the comedy that unsettles certainties and overturns the end of the film, the representation of our world.

Alaska in Winter gifts us synth-pop and Balkan litanies that vibrate strongly in the heart, a starry night, choral ballads rich with aromas where the wind blows and gently caresses us, bringing an unexpected gift, serenity.

Edirne is now closer, Adriano is no longer just a name in history, shadows stretch and reconnect with the past, Life moves.
