Living Colour The Chair In The Doorway

Nice review, clear and comprehensive. An album that I have still listened to very little to give a judgment. I also do not agree on the sales discussion: Vivid and its 2 million copies seem to me more than a decent success. Am I still the only one to consider Reid too overrated?? Tonight I'm going to see them live and we'll see if I change my mind ;)

Well, come on, Nirvana were EXCLUSIVELY Cobain: character, voice, guitar, lyrics, music... Alice in Chains in the creation of the songs were 80% Cantrell.

It’s been a week since it’s been in heavy rotation and, despite the album being decidedly immediate (maybe too much?), my favorite tracks keep changing... right now it’s Take her out taking the lead... and I can hardly understand why... sung almost in a monotone, no particular riffs, verses and choruses alternating every 4/4 (something I usually hate, a hallmark of radio hits)... and yet it hypnotizes me, the bass hitting the same notes, a simple melodic line but with an undefined tone... and at the end of the track, my finger automatically goes to the <<|rwd button...

Come on, let’s not end up in a fight here... I agree with Alex anyway: selling millions of copies doesn’t mean you’ve done bad work... I liked his solo albums, including this one, even if it’s under a different name ; )

all this praising of Cantrell.....I wonder how many have actually listened to his solo works, which had much more AIC style pieces than this...Cut You In, Jesus Hands, Psychotic Break, Bargain Basement Howard Hughes, Spiderbite, Dying Inside....should I go on? This is to respond to those who wonder if it was worth making an album like AIC: judging by the number of comments, I would say yes, since the album is very similar to the solo works that no one has ever considered.

Response to comment 47: Why present yourself with the same name? Because Cantrell had done some solo work that didn't really stray far from this and the previous AIC, but did anyone care? Has he ever been able to afford a world tour? Has there ever been that much anticipation and curiosity? Obviously not. And should we say it all?? The AIC have always been 80% Cantrell; Staley was little more than an executor, although an excellent one, with his unique timbre and the perfect appeal for the grunge years. So why let the moniker die with him, who, to put it bluntly, also sought his own end? And I'm speaking as someone who considers Layne among their top 10 favorite singers of all time, and AIC the number one band of the grunge era. That said, I'll repeat: it's an album too clean and American to be beautiful and damned like the previous ones. It has good tracks but not yet excellent. And have you thought about why we have two singles and two videos right away?? Because if they had released only "Check My Brain" (this one will definitely make it on MTV, with its 3 minutes and more of chorus than verses), we would have all crucified them immediately without even listening to the album... By releasing "Looking View," a piece that wouldn't be out of place on "Dirt," we give them the benefit of the doubt. Live, from what I've seen on YouTube, it doesn't seem worth it; Cantrell leaves too much space for DuVall (whereas he's nonexistent on the record). Then, if you want to add the AIC name to your collection of tickets, well, that's another story ; ) Anyway, my absolute favorites are "Looking View," "Your Decision," and "Take Me Out."

Look, the new singer of AIC is called Jerry Cantrell.... duBall, fortunately, is heard in the third track and in the choruses... for the rest, it's Cantrell.
Anyway, it's not a bad album with 2 or 3 really nice tracks, but the whole album is enjoyable to listen to, even if perhaps it's a bit too immediate. In fact, it reminds me more of Drain than AIC: metalgrunge riffs, suffering verses but choruses made for MTV (one example is "Check My Brain," which is not coincidentally the next TRUE single, a track that's "alternative" and good for radio and MTV).
