Scary don't talk nonsense. We're not talking about Queen here! U2 will go down in history for The Edge's guitar, for Bono's charisma, for their multimedia tours. The Police for skillfully blending rock, jazz, and reggae into a completely original fusion.

Pop is not a piece of junk, and that's why I'll review it shortly. R.E.M. are much more singer-songwriter and refined than U2, who definitely have more impact. It's pointless to argue which is better; I believe all three bands have made significant contributions to the history of rock.

Are you saying that U2 and the Police are inferior to R.E.M.? Well, they are different bands. The rhythm section of the Police was unmatched. Just listen to masterpieces like "Outlandos d'amour" or "Reggatta de blanc." U2 has never been indie, except for their first two albums, but unlike R.E.M., they were original, creating a very personal style and having the guts to change and experiment with electronics. So...

The only album by REM that I own. Beautiful. I don't know if the Smiths influenced them or vice versa. Anyway, I love the atmospheres of this record. Nice review, concise but effective.
