Larrok, I’ve been expecting a reflection like this from you for a while now :-) First of all, I want to point out that it’s not really Easy that influences me, but rather a certain type of approach. I can’t stand classic power metal and prog metal anymore; it all happened very quickly, a sudden escalation. At one point, I found myself listening to Dimmu Borgir and Pixies together, and it couldn’t go on like that. I chose the path that represented me best. And that wasn’t Dimmu Borgir anymore. Moreover, I discovered bands like Built to Spill, Wire, Frog Eyes (the latter I doubt Easy would be crazy about), just out of my own curiosity; I liked them right away, and frankly, I don’t care if Easy likes them or not. I thank Easy for two bands in the end: My Bloody Valentine and Pixies. If you look at my scattered comments on Debaser, you’ll see that I don’t really pay much attention to what Easy does, thinks, or says… I am far more independent than you think. If I have to give 5 stars to Soul At Zero by Neurosis, I’ll do it right away, and I couldn’t care less about Easy (said cordially, of course). Sure, the discussion about Metropolis influenced me, but why? Because fundamentally, Easy starts from a critical methodological premise that, in theory, is very agreeable. But when it comes down to a specific album, I think for myself; it seems so obvious! If it were only Easy who considered Sonic Youth a great band, your reasoning might hold… but as you well know, Sonic Youth were important regardless of the existence of Lorenzo aka easycure. Got it?

Squonk, you’re abusing my patience... "Lux still with the Sonic Youth!! They suck and can’t play"... but do you still believe that those who are better at playing make higher quality music? Don’t you realize that this perspective on art is absolutely mediocre and quantitative (when it should instead be Qualitative)? Have you found me a rock critic of average competence who prefers Dream Theater to Sonic Youth? I’m still waiting. Ah, someone like Richard Benson doesn’t count, okay... Please read this, maybe it will clear your mind Sonic Youth - biografia, recensioni, discografia, foto :: OndaRock

No, bolans especially was superior. In fact, not everything that is glam should be rejected. And perhaps not everyone knows that the early Queen were not meant to be taken seriously, that their era was pure parody... they were more refined than you think, Blackdog ;-)

I know, but they are immense anyway. But take a Schizophrenia for example, or a Bubblegum. How much more expressive are they compared to this bland and super conventional record by Dt?

Sonic Youth were one of the most fundamental bands of rock...of the 80s for all the bands of the 90s.

No Squank, maybe we haven't clarified one point: regardless of the Dt, Sonic Youth have been one of the most fundamental bands in rock. I'm not saying this. Please go to a moderately knowledgeable critic and ask them. Please, do it. Marlene Kuntz are nice, but without Sonic Youth, by now, they would still be playing covers of Nick Cave.

Well, well, you can listen to whatever you like, I just thought that since you love Pere Ubu, it would be hard to "get you excited" with this PT record (because there's an abyss between this one and The Modern Dance, to be honest). So you were referring to Mercury Rev!! But I'm gonna strangle youuuuuuuuuuu!
