Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness

I've resized the album; it’s frighteningly heterogeneous, lacking a coherent thread. Each song is produced and arranged differently from the others; it seems more like a synthetic compilation of 20 years of rock activity than a concept album. You can’t jump from XIU to We only Come Out at Night (perhaps the best ballad of the second album) — they have nothing in common, they're two different bands. If you ask me what the typical ideal guitar sound of this album is, I wouldn’t know how to answer. There are 28 different bands on this album, and I don’t see much personality. But there are also beautiful songs, alongside some cloying and useless ballads, so I’ll give it a 3.

The review is not entirely wrong, but it’s a shame about that final sentence: "Corgan, who has notoriously never had any problems except for how to invest his mocked dollars or how to take care of his hemorrhoids, what the hell does he have to complain about???"... and who are you to judge Corgan's mental struggles? Anyway, the album is downsized; it’s frighteningly heterogeneous, lacking a coherent thread. Damn it, I wanted to go, but here no one listens to Youth, and I like to enjoy concerts in the company of someone I know... here Vasco reigns!

I agree with everything Stoney said, except that it's not easy to make chart-topping pop. Anyone with a decent ear can create a catchy, pseudo-romantic or pseudo-deep hook. After all, the winning chords are the ones we all know... you might say it's a bit more challenging to choose the right sounds and for mixing (is that how you say it?). Anyway, pop is pop, that's the point. You can create "meaningful" pop; you just need the right attitude.

The quote about the Rolling Stones is perfect! No to conservative mummies, yes to the Rock of DN's Youth, which after 20 years remains "beyond," always looking forward. Their style doesn't include silly stadium Hard Rock blues songs, which make no sense in 2007. Try again for another 5!
