For odradek: but if Trent has exceptional charisma, what fault is it of his? He is idolized because no one else, when you look them in the face, communicates that sense of tacky Apocalypse that he manages to convey so effectively. Okay, Fragile is the last album worth listening to (albeit not a masterpiece) and possesses some interesting ideas, but it doesn’t seem to me that Nine Inch Nails as a whole have been overrated. Creating an impactful and deeply expressive album like TDS, where it’s hard to understand how the hell he managed to create the right balance between aesthetics and nihilistic content, resulting in both a niche appeal on one hand and an absolute universality on the other, is not something just anyone can achieve. Aesthetic taste has always been Trent's strong suit, along with those productions that make his albums evergreen; in fact, if you listen to Spirale today, it sounds like an album that was released yesterday, not 13 years ago. The problem is rather that Trent achieved perfection too early with TDS (only on his second studio album), and that, all in all, he hasn’t had much to say musically in terms of quantity. Trent is the typical artist remembered for a single album because he is one who says everything right away. Being a truly existential outburst, once you've said (albeit in a sublime way) that society, the individual, and humanity's idea of God are all bullshit, and even more so that the only “real” thing that truly matters and moves mountains is sex, you don’t have much left to say. And if you keep saying it, you fall into self-celebration and become less credible (as indeed Trent has done).

Well, guys, I listened to Alaska and it was crap... ultra cerebral with technique for its own sake, at times it feels like listening to Petrucci's guitar for those aseptic solos... Then there are sudden genre changes within the same track (and between different tracks) that only make me suspicious about the real value of the band... it’s the attitude that seems more or less the same as the Dt (and other bands like Children of Bodom and assorted techno-death groups). They feel quite derivative, overall.

I can't help but vote this negatively... this record is an unbearable piece of junk, you shouldn't even mention Sonic Youth in a review of these three fake lunatics.
