"I would cast a veil of compassion over 'the nihilistic relativism of our time,' given that I don't think the 'fear of pissing outside the pot' can be attributed to it"---so what would you attribute this exacerbated ghettoization of the various rock currents (since we are always talking about rock, not genres that are so different) that you and parcondio manifest?

nzucobr, daily numbness is fine, but I still don't have a completely burnt-out brain (thankfully).."what I criticized was (as lux continues to do in the last post) the comparison between works that have nothing in common"...so? And I'm referring to the first album of the Dinosauri, not the second (but it doesn't change much, if you want I can take You're living as a reference)..I repeat ad nauseam that we're dealing with two Rock albums (one from an indie institution, the other from an Italian indie band that draws CLAMOROUSLY from American culture to play alternative rock, even though this album is a pathetic Italianization of the same), thus completely comparable.
Despite this, I certainly didn't go into "deep analyses" between the tracks of the two albums; I simply said that one is better than the other. And here someone started to make movies about it, labeling me as arrogant or otherwise unreliable. My guys, screw the nihilistic relativism of our time, look at what level it has reduced you to..don't you dare compare two Rock albums for fear of stepping out of line.
I am sincerely disarmed. It doesn't take a genius to understand that any album by Mascis' band (even the less inspired ones) is better than this one from the After. You don't need to call on any particular philosophical theory to admit it, you know.

"Try listening to the first album by Dinosaur Jr, and then listen to this one by After: tell me, do they seem like two examples of equally honest and sincere indie records? No, you know, if you answer yes, I'll call an ambulance to your house."---But what's strange about my post? I mean, Parcondio, you come to tell me that what I'm saying doesn't make sense and yet you have NEVER LISTENED to a SINGLE song by Dinosaur Jr... You’ve probably listened to very few alternative indie albums in general... and yet you want to present yourself as an expert on something that doesn't concern you, because you don't know it. You don't understand the situations I'm talking about, and consequently, you don't get the comparisons I'm making either. This is a gesture of TRUE arrogance, that's what I'm saying...

Damn it, guys, I compared two indie rock albums, not Bach to Sons and Daughters... come on, people call me pretentious for the things I say, but a bit more conceptual flexibility when talking about the rock melting pot would be appreciated, right? Parcondio, the attitude to play is a fact, I don't have anything to do with it. That Dinosaur Jr have a greater expressive capacity (while considering Capolavoro with a capital C only for You're Living in their discography) compared to this album by After is, I believe, an undeniable fact. "It almost serves to reiterate the concept (reiterate, because in the end it’s always what you point out) that the music you listen to is the only one worth noting, the rest is pure fluff."—but does it scare you so much someone who doesn’t just say I like it/I don’t like it? Are we even getting into conspiracy theories? If someone comes to tell me that the two albums I compared "have nothing in common," I start (and I say this with utmost sincerity) to doubt their competence.

I've never said that context is trivial. But beyond everything, the point here is one. Judging a rock album based on the "little garden" it belongs to (the so-called genre or sub-genre) is extremely reductive and relative. The drive must be absolute and absolutizing, because I believe the very concept of art is. Parcondio, you didn't grasp one thing: I simply state whether one album is better than another, based on the playing attitude that is found in them. The quality of attitude transcends eras and contexts; if someone is a genius, their albums will be great albums even 20 years from now (revisionism aside). The context helps to understand the album and contextualize it, after which one can say whether the album is good or bad and everything else. Of course, between the first Dinosaur Jr album and the last Afta, there are 23 years, but we are talking about two entities (albums) that have cultural and musical value IN THEMSELVES. I do not deny the different context in which they arise; I simply compare them qualitatively. With the same calmness with which I say that Down Colorful Hill by Red House Painters is (infinitely) superior to Rubber Soul (even though there are 27 years between the two albums and we find ourselves in very different contexts).

We're getting hung up on a trivial matter... I use the context to determine whether the record is good or bad, but once I've understood that, I can comfortably compare it to other records within the same movement (and not just that...). Because I’ve already established if it’s good or bad. Ask Alessio, for instance, whether the latest Afta is better than Dinosaur... let’s see if he responds with “They are two incomparable records” or “What the hell kind of question is that, the answer is obvious.” In this case, "I Milanesi ammazzano il sabato" is exactly how a rock record should NOT be (at least for me), so comparing it to a record like Dinosaur, which makes sincerity and expressive honesty its strong suit, can only make it look bad...
