THE REVIEW

Once upon a time, Trent Reznor used to take years between album releases. Now he's more prolific than ever: following last year's "Year Zero" and the monumental instrumental quadruple "Ghosts I-IV" released last month, the brand new and compelling "The Slip" arrives. And you can download it completely free from the band's website: http://www.nin.com/.

After the brief intro "999,000", the group begins to hit hard. "I feel a million miles away, I don't feel anything at all" sings Trent in "1,000,000". The NIN sound is always recognizable yet more direct than ever, truly millions of miles away from the past. "Letting You" is characterized by a completely distorted vocal part, the electronics dangerously dance close to hardcore and the chorus is brutally punk. A true sonic assault that is quite convincing. "Discipline", the first single, is hypnotic, a classic journey into Mr. Reznor's twisted mind. "Once I start I can't stop myself", he warns us. And with "Echoplex" you indeed plunge definitively into his damned mind. With "Head Down" it's love at first listen, Trent's words are my words, his voice is my voice, his face is my face.

"Lights In The Sky" is a whispered ballad at the piano that breaks the record in two. The pace slows down, the voice disappears. "Corona Radiata" (yes, that's really the title... could it be a mockery against the famous Italian paparazzo?) is characterized by a glacial atmosphere akin to "2001: A Space Odyssey". "The Four Of Us Are Dying" has a beat of immense depth, the space journey can continue. Grand finale with the rhythmic "Demon Seed", a voice that starts whispering and then crescendos into shouting, while disorienting choruses accompany it, yeah yeah yeah.

Summary by Bot

Trent Reznor's 'The Slip' arrives as a free album showcasing his prolific creativity. The record features a raw sound blending electronics, punk, and hypnotic elements. Standout tracks like 'Discipline' and 'Head Down' reveal a direct and intense musical journey. The album balances aggression with atmospheric pieces such as 'Lights In The Sky' and 'Corona Radiata.' Overall, it's a compelling addition to NIN's evolving catalog.

Reznor is in good form, both artistically and 'productively', and you can feel it right from the sonic onslaughts of '1,000,000'.

'The Slip' is a good piece of work, obviously not on the level of 'The Downward Spiral' or 'The Fragile,' but it nevertheless confirms the talent of Mr. Reznor.

My answer is NO! Trent Reznor is not finished or sold out.

The Slip is, in my opinion, the sum of the previous albums from the 2000s.

But where the hell were you when you produced it, in the gym lifting 120kg of weights?!! Extremely pompous music and nonexistent lyrics at worst and repetitions of already heard and re-heard motifs at best!!!

You might ask: 'Where's the review of The Slip?' It is exactly this. NOTHING.
