Here we have the splatter forerunner of Piranha 3D seen at the parish years and years ago, and this other one (a bit more filthy)! But the pinnacle of splatter grossness (and shame), bordering almost on snuff, belongs to Italy with some horrifying films from the '70s, of which I’ll avoid even mentioning the titles. Out of pure fear: I adore Carpenter’s Halloween from 1978, the American version of The Ring which, despite what people say, has incredibly dense and hypnotic atmospheres (little Samara...), then there’s The Exorcist and The Shining, which are obvious classics, the Japanese films from a few years back like The Grudge, The Eye, and Ringu were great for spooking, not to mention some masterpieces by Argento like Profondo rosso. For the popcorn series, I loved Blair Witch Project and the first Scream. For horror everywhere: The Others, Jaws, and Alien.
