Lostinspace... I don’t know about the reviewer, but I gave this book a 5 because it’s a masterpiece in ITS genre, in its small and well-defined genre. If we want to base the rating and calibrate it starting from, for instance, a 5 for the works of Shakespeare, Dante, Homer, Pirandello, Svevo, Boccaccio, Dickens, Dostoyevsky, Leopardi, Proust, Sophocles, Twain, Kafka, Tolkien, Flaubert... and much etcetera... this kind of books would get around a -2.5. Fine. But the same reasoning should apply when giving a 5 to a Led Zeppelin, The Who, U2, Pink Floyd album compared to a Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, or Strauss. In my opinion, everything is relative. And if someone thinks this book deserves a 5, what’s wrong with that? What does it mean, a small vessel book? Everything is relative.

I would start to worry... but I meant to say... what kind of seriousness can a group of Japanese have when they're singing in a broken English with an adoring crowd of other Japanese chanting "Satanaaaaaas," making an album with a goat's head on the cover, and they have in Italy a single fan who writes a review expressing himself like this: "The tupa-tutupa is king - satanic metal - the chirping of a mechanical crow - 4 satanic samurai"? Wait a second, let me catch my breath...

Radio transmission for kids UNDER 16. To listen to them, they seem pretty pointless. Perhaps that's their mission. But what's the point? Zero, zero...

I meant: "And this book has feet of reinforced concrete." Since we're at it, I also recommend the minors Rivelazioni, Mangiatori di morte, and Stato di paura.

I didn't notice the Americanized effect when the book was released. On the contrary, it was an incredible surprise for its concept and execution. There was no movie, no extensive marketing hype with dinosaurs everywhere... there was only that just-released book that precisely told me that from amber a beast from millions of years ago could come back to life. And in novels, especially in this genre, we already have to thank the writer for keeping them well grounded. And this book is firmly rooted. In its genre, it deserves a 5. Of course, Crichton doesn't have an elitist, difficult, or "for a few" writing style, but he was and will remain a great of world science fiction literature. I strongly recommend reading his earlier books: Sphere, Congo, and The Great Train Robbery among them.
