The reviewer is right: "an excellent work, well played, well sung, produced impeccably, attended to in every detail." One might even agree. But beyond that? Did Garbage ever have a soul, or should we rate them solely based on sound and choruses? Because albums like this one, which I also bought by the way, now fail to inspire me to revisit them unlike many other bands you mentioned (Nirvana, Smashing, Sonic Youth, Urge....)???
I have a theory: they were just a product, a brand, like a perfume or a watch. The "soul," as frivolous as that may sound... is something else. So 5 for production, sound, choruses, etc., and 2.2 for the album understood as an original idea to listen to.
