It's true, damn..it's not easy to fully define the prog genre..let's say it's been distorted over time. Progressive, in my opinion, refers to a musical genre that is innovative..a bit outside the box..and the area surely did that. In England, it has been attributed to many bands that, in my view, had nothing to do with prog. King Crimson started doing prog after their second album (if I remember correctly); the first two were still influenced by the psychedelic era. I have a group called "Andromeda" from 1969, which featured the guy who later played in Atomic Rooster (John Cann)..and that could definitely be called prog. The year 1969 was significant..and that album represents a mix of psychedelia and hard rock...in a way, even some of Black Sabbath's work could fit into the mix. It's a bit like when discussing crossover..innovation..fusion..of genres..that, in my opinion, can be understood as progressive. But it's an endless discussion..you risk ending up in the Greek calends.

here...if there’s a song that drives me crazy it’s "L'elefante bianco," I don’t know which album it’s from… that one is truly a MASTERPIECE… the rest I still need to digest… you know, it takes me a bit of time… I'm a bit slow with these things. Oh... nuova idea is nice but not irresistible, yes. Flea and Metamorfosi I recommend...

Well... maybe I understand prog differently... I have their first album and a compilation, but I find them quite challenging. Distanze al Mutuo? I don't know. The Balletto is unique... like La metamorfosi or the Flea... not to mention Biglietto Per L'inferno or Nuova Idea... devastating. Anyway, I'll listen to the Area again, I promise. Damn, Cazzy, you've made me want to listen to them all again. In fact, now I'm going to dig into my personal 70s prog guide. I was interested in Uovo di Colombo... never heard of them??

So... I don't know the album, so I can't express any judgments. Damn... Damn... I have to ask you a question. Is your review an actual critique or just another way to shit on the Afterhours and overly praise the Area? I won’t comment on the Area because I've listened to very little of their work... and yeah... listened, to what can be deemed listenable from them. All in all (aside from Stratos's immense voice), I don't consider the Area the best Italian band ever, as you say; neither in the prog (or avant-garde) field nor in general. In the prog realm, I believe there are much more valid formations, e.g., Balletto di Bronzo, Biglietto Per L'inferno, PFM, Flea, Metamorfosi, Nuova Idea... Banco as well... those are the ones that come to mind. No one doubts the greatness of the Area and everything else, but there’s a long way from that to considering them the best. Perhaps in the experimental field, yes... they have surely contributed more than other bands... but in the end, if I have to put on a CD from that era before putting on one by Stratos and Co., I think about it carefully. But as usual, these are personal opinions that I felt like sharing since I’m a fan of this musical period (the 70s), especially in Italy. Regarding the Afterhours... I wouldn’t burn them at all... actually... they are my favorites... even though Agnelli lately is affected by the business logic that circulates in the scene and now aims more to be an artistic magnate and chase after dollars. I will definitely express my opinion upon the release of the new album... which I sincerely hope is a good work. I respect your point of view, but if you haven’t already, listen to something from the bands I mentioned above... at least that way you can tell me to fuck off with a bit more evidence... :-)).
