I believe I clarified that it's not the charts that lead me to express a judgment on a band's career, and in fact, right after the sentence that complements Mario's thought, I added that from there they no longer had the same bite, as seen when I talk about the softened sound compared to the more passionate and visceral records of the 80s. Climbing the charts is a phenomenon that unfortunately too often occurs when a band softens certain jagged trajectories and makes them palatable and comforting (but for me, when art is comforting, it’s crap) for the masses who have different needs than those of connoisseurs like us.
