I have to say that time has aged this record a bit... even if not much time has actually passed. The fact is that among my stoner records, it’s not one that frequently makes it to the playlist. I don’t think the acoustic overdubs really fit well, in my opinion. Anyway, I saw them live in 2000 (or the year after, who knows?) and seeing Ruben play the flaming gong was awesome; unfortunately, my blindness prevented me from appreciating On Trial opening for them, what a fool!!!

Did you know that Heavy Sea starts like the last piece of "2nd of May" by May Blitz? If you have it, give it a listen... and then The Heads also covered "For Madmen Only," right from Blitz, on Sucking the 70's.

Well, I'm sorry to say it, but I wish the Futureheads were more like the Dirtbombs, with all due respect, even just for their musical career. And anyway, I'm not bashing them; at least I don't feel like completely denigrating them. Since they draw inspiration from things I like less than garage, I appreciate them less than I do, for example, the Dirtbombs. Obviously, they're not offering anything that will change the course of music history, but in the rock realm, who really does?
Dinosaur Jr. live@Urbino 05/08/2005 (Frequenze Disturbate)

I had mixed reactions: too spaced out from the joints to fully appreciate it, I alternated moments of pleasure with others of boredom. I admit I didn't follow them much as a teenager; I only remember "where you been" and the album after that, I think. I’ve only now downloaded the first three. So for me, the effect was different than for someone who was already a long-time fan. However, I noticed that in some cases their music hasn’t aged well; maybe it's because of all those who were inspired by the dinosaurs, or I don't know why, but anyway, it didn't excite me much as a concert.

Thanks, people. I also really regret losing them a couple of years ago in Bologna, but oh well. Anyway, the rest of their production is remarkable; they are definitely the best in the garage scene right now. Also, because they don’t really sound very garage, they're quite varied. Anyway, Ultraglide in Black is perhaps the best thing they’ve produced. The samples tomorrow.

I couldn't, because gerogerigegege aside I have nothing, but university friends had everything. They often resemble each other anyway. If you find the book, take it; it's one of the few books on contemporary Japan that doesn't fall into the usual clichés, nor does it glorify everything that is Japanese, which is very trendy right now.

d&d was the first for me, then I got obsessed and played a bit of everything. Maybe the best were Shadowrun (fantasy cyberpunk, which sounds terrible when you say it like that, but I swear it had the most precise and fast combat system I’ve ever seen) and the Call of Cthulhu (or however the hell it’s spelled). Good times when I wasn’t doing a damn thing and didn’t have any worries about doing something. Anyway, the best is Vampire: The Dark Ages, you start from the Fourth Crusade and go all the way to '98... the campaign has been going on for exactly three years.

Damn, you played Vampire: The Masquerade too? I've been back into it for two years and I'm hooked on vampires again, the only adult role-playing game left around. Anyway, the movie marked my adolescence too, and I couldn’t care less if it wasn't exactly like the book. Oldman carries everything. And then there's one of the most beautiful women out there, Winona. By the way, one of the most interesting films about vampirism (but used as a broader metaphor) is The Addiction by Abel Ferrara, which I highly recommend.

Last year in Japan, a box set with all the recordings was released (I think)... I’m curious, but I don’t digest Italian prog too well, more out of ignorance than for strictly musical reasons. From what you've written, though, I would love to hear it.

I don't know, I just have and then nothing...blahblahblah...and I have to say I expected better, but they should let me download it. That way, at least I can choose which phase of the group I like the most.
