osteria enk a comeback! Well, I really liked the review of those unfortunate mustachioed ones, the Cocorosie. I hope you also do a review of their latest diarrhea-inducing album. Unfortunately, I left Reznor with the double album from ’99; he was already lost as far as I'm concerned.

I agree, I also preferred the Carthaginians. I even went on a school trip passing through the ruins of Carthage. I have always been interested in Middle Eastern populations, especially pre-Christ, and then I became fascinated by Mongolian history and the Vikings—other great characters, despite the utilitarian use made by the right, of course.

I hoped not, in fact ghemison, I didn't want to jump to conclusions. Xerxes was a megalomaniac, of course, but from how you wrote, you weren't making references to historical studies, which made me suspicious. Not that having studied necessarily means being right. Anyway, as you say, you're basing yourself on Greek studies… so Greek historians. I would have always liked to have the other point of view and understand how the Spartans or the Greeks were seen by the Persians. Do you know if there are any texts about that?

beautiful beautiful beautiful, also for me barely classifiable. I just downloaded it about a month ago and I have to say that it entertains me.

Ghemison, I remind you that in terms of cultural evolution, the Persian Empire was definitely better off than the Greeks at the time of the Thermopylae. Then the invasion caused the peoples to clash but also to share mutual knowledge. Alexander the Great brought Buddhist thought from India, particularly that of Nagarjuna, which influenced many contemporary Greek thinkers. Obviously, everyone defends their own land; or rather, if you attack me, I defend myself, but to say that Xerxes was a jumped-up guy seems like a bit of a stretch. Are you perhaps an expert in antiquities and Iranian history? Because otherwise, I don't know how you can claim that Xerxes was a jumped-up guy. The so-called pseudo-historical sources from that whole period are already difficult to interpret; they can't be taken literally. Even less so should one be influenced by cinema, which serves as a compressed overview of ancient history. Regarding how invading peoples were perceived, the issue is interesting. I've read a ton about encounters/clashes between distant cultures. Just think of the Crusades from the Arab perspective, or accounts from an Arab historian discussing slave trade with the Vikings (where they are noted as being true beasts compared to the Middle East of 900 AD). The European view of the Mongols is also remarkable (the hordes of Gog and Magog, that is, an army of demons that according to the Apocalypse of John would descend upon the Earth with the fall of the penultimate cup) and the Mongol view of Europeans (astonished comments on how people would take refuge inside buildings—churches—to escape them. Obviously, being good nomads, they would burn the building down with everyone inside). This is to convey that the perspective of the Other is always more complex than one believes (or wants to believe).

My girlfriend is bombarding me because I need to read the book before watching the movie. The thing is, I already know the book because she’s been talking about it for months. Is it available in any format?

I almost entirely agree with the reviewer, but I'm sorry, it really fails in the entertainment department. I was bored out of my mind, just like I was bored with Gladiator, just to say. Obviously, this doesn't make any claims to historical accuracy; you take it for what it is... but portraying the Spartans as "defenders of freedom" is a terrible joke. As far as I remember, they weren't a city-state of pacifist intellectuals, and the fact that dying in battle was considered the highest honor isn't a great sign of civilization, but rather of massive demagogy. But anyway, that's not the point. The point is that, graphic design aside, it’s so lacking in depth that it seems like nun geroglifico. The voice actors need to be sent abroad immediately.

If you watch some videos, you’ll understand why the drummer isn't crazy... a tom, a kick drum, a crash. That's it. And he plays standing up.

Beautiful, seen it at least two or three times on "Fuori Orario" years ago. The victory is incredible, Ali had taken so many hits from Frazier and seemed to be gone for a couple of years, and Foreman had demolished Frazier in two rounds, if I remember correctly. It's fantastic when they show James Brown in concert before the match.
