for grace for what DT stands for. I hope it’s not Dream Theater. They always pissed me off since the time of the first album.

Alright, the syntax of the comment above had some gaps, but I hope it's understandable.

Anyway, what I meant was that I like to understand what they say, that's why I prefer English. Then, of course, it's also a matter of affection (I learned English by translating song lyrics) and let's say convenience, given the American and English dominance. However, the problem with the few things I've heard is that they would musically suck for me, so blessed ignorance. Beware of the allure of the exotic (in the broad sense of the term, to be clear) and of the different at all costs. Listening to bad music (for me, I mean) whether it's English or Uzbek hurts the same. Crap at any latitude will change color or consistency but it remains crap. Like the musical coordinates of a genre I might like, I consider them beautiful in English, Finnish, Japanese, or Tagalog. It’s obvious that the point you make about our closeness and the music industry that doesn’t allow us to know what might be good in the world is valid, but still, if you search, you’ll find it now in the internet age. In my opinion, not making local music mass-scale does more good for the music itself, simply because success and money are tempting for everyone, especially in countries where poverty is still widespread, it’s a method of social and economic redemption.

Honestly, I don’t mind understanding what the hell a song is about, but I get what you mean when you talk about anglophilia. Still, I repeat, if I have to listen to songs in indigenous languages, I head over to stuff like Tinariwen.

I can now say this with better knowledge: this is one of the few albums that says SOMETHING (whether it's new or not is not important) in the music field over the last 6-7 years. It grows exponentially, but even if it were to decline, I wouldn’t care. The impact is tremendous. In my opinion, it's one of the few albums that will remain during this time of compulsive revivals. Many bands will have to compare themselves to it in the future. Chapeau! In fact, I even wrote a somewhat rambling review, but I stick to my anti-duplicate dogmas.

Don, take a look on YouTube and then tell me which of the two is worse. I don't think the visual and auditory trash of the event is that "ironically" self-aware. By now, it would be a surreal singing competition with Zlad! Elio, and various idiots. No, they are serious, that's the problem. We, having seen so much kitsch, think it’s impossible to do it intentionally. But in my opinion, it’s our presumption that makes us say it (not your personal one, obviously). With this, you understand, I don’t mean to say that MTV money reward is super cool, wow… but at least the music is a little better every now and then, it depends on what’s trendy at the moment, but think of the Red Hot in '91, Radiohead, Hives... well, you might tell me that maybe you think they suck, but there’s a bit of a difference.

I don't think I would have the courage to vote for it now. Or rather, at the time I saw it because I was 10 years old and these films were tailored for my target audience, so I also remember the Sloth brothers, and especially the scene where they tell the overweight guy to tell the WHOLE truth and he starts recounting EVERYTHING from the age of 2! So it might have some sentimental value. But I’m an adult (at least on paper) so analyzing it in hindsight, this is just fluff, and watching it at this age is painful because it no longer has the charm it had when seen through the eyes of a child. Now you can only see its glaring flaws.

I don't understand why waste so many words as if Sanremo were a musical event. It’s not, so save your time and neurons and let’s talk about music, shall we? And from the way you describe it and the samples provided, this thing must have been a terrible ordeal. But why even bother? Look, I would do this: let’s close the Sanremo Festival and also this Eurofestival, which reminds me of Giochi Senza Frontiere... (maybe there’s even a common thread). It may be musical racism, but in their respective countries, there are (I hope) artists who have more to say, as Sanremo is not a reflection of true Italian music; otherwise, we would be emigrating en masse.

Do you know what I think is missing? Sincerity and, above all, geographical origin. If they were Americans, they would seem more sincere and less contrived. Everything that's produced in the UK these days is 50% crap dressed in gold, or they are bands that have something good but get snatched up by marketing managers and turned into something else. Like the Noisettes, who don't benefit from a comparison with Skin & Co., but that comparison is made by the same press agencies. The result: the nostalgic occasional consumer looking for something that reminds them of something else buys happily; the listener looking for something new steers clear of them. Final outcome: the band is already tarnished from the start.
