The White Stripes Icky Thump

Well, I don't know, I downloaded it two days ago and it doesn't seem like a stroke of genius to me, just like the QOTSA one might not be. Anyway, I figured out why my copy sounds bad... and I don't think the Stripes are that good at preventing the distribution of their albums on the internet. I downloaded Elephant a month before the release of Seven Nation Army.

I would have spent a few more words on the Leighton Koizumi group, also because I know them less than the Morlocks... is Night of the Phantom the cover of the original one in Back From The Grave vol 1?

And instead, I believe easy is not so naive, because they might have been the first example of a media and cultural phenomenon in the history of music. Or at least the first to be exploited for this purpose (but this is a purely Albionian dynamic and not limited to the music industry alone). They were indeed hyped, but only after the buzz made them known; at that time, the music biz as we understand it now did not exist, because no one thought they could make a living from music. The Beatles propelled a myriad of bands to play (whether for artistic reasons or to "make money," as in the case of the garage example I mentioned above). Right now, I’m reading a very detailed biography of Hendrix that explains how this process began and how, particularly, there was not much rivalry among the bands of the time (except for Jagger, who called the Beatles a "four-headed monster"). Then we can discuss the fact that Dylan was the father of many artists of that era (Hendrix primarily, and also the Beatles, if the anecdote about the psychedelic turn and drugs when they met at the Chelsea Hotel is true). There were media phenomena per se, but they were post-Beatles/Rolling Stones—see the Monkees. In hindsight, it’s obvious that the musical phenomenon can be downplayed, but it cannot be denied that even bands playing very different things at the time, willingly or unwillingly, took something from the Beatles. Denying this could lead to a subtle form of revisionism.

I agree with VincVega, I would be happy to revisit this from Kill Bill...
Quentin Tarantino Grindhouse: Death Proof - A Prova di Morte

Grindhouse is not an ego-masturbation thing like Kill Bill, which isn’t even funny, and I repeat, in my opinion, it’s a bit pretentious. It should be taken for what it is; it’s normal that some people find it utterly terrible, and that’s fair enough. If you analyze it, it has no plot, the dialogues are full of holes (so much so that either you get used to it and embrace the nonsensical perspective, or you just go home, otherwise, you're just hurting yourself), but it's not badly edited; on the contrary, there are plenty of deliberate mistakes, and it’s a feast for the eyes, in my opinion. But in the end, did Kill Bill really have that much of a plot? It was also hyper-polished everywhere, even too much for my taste, but many consider it (wrongly) a masterpiece. Where's the truth? I would say it's down the toilet...

Damn, how does an olifant sound? Is it considered a wind or string instrument? Or vocal?

I'm listening to it now, but being at the office, I can't hear it all at the appropriate volume...

beautiful as always, these I've never even heard of by name, and it's strange considering my ongoing archaeological research. Where did you get them, Anto?

Well, the consensus is that Mellon Collie is superior to Siamese Dream, but as far as I'm concerned, even Pisces Iscariot is better than Mellon Collie, and the two songs you mentioned don’t seem to be the best of Mellon; maybe they are among the most famous. Perhaps you got to know them through Mellon?
