Martin Scorsese Cape Fear - Il Promontorio Della Paura

Bought it on DVD last week for 10 euros, and maybe you can find it for less. The delirious photography is phenomenal, especially the underwater corpse of the woman in the car captured by the hidden truths.

I originally saw it centuries ago on Fuori Orario, Mitchum was great but perhaps the best noir of the genre that I can remember remains "Night Of The Hunter" (La Morte Corre Sul Fiume) where there’s a crazy preacher Mitchum who talks with God which makes the film worthwhile. Plus, he has LOVE and HATE tattooed on his fingers...

However, let's not forget that the hippie movement was a direct emanation (perhaps a bit fashionable) of an entire countercultural upheaval to which practically everything that came after owes its gratitude. Unfortunately, it inadvertently created some monsters (see nonsense like the new age and its pseudo-Buddhist syncretism), but it laid the groundwork for future protests and was a driving force behind much fundamental music. Just to clarify my point of view.

remains my favorite by Primal Scream. I would also kill all the fake hippies of today, and maybe even half of those from back then (because many were just riding the wave and living off daddy’s money… a bit like three-quarters of the punkabbestia nowadays). Strange coincidence, I was about your age when I bought it and I was also living in Asia but in Tokyo, end of ’99, Swastika Eyes playing EVERYWHERE.! Good times! Anyway, you made a better choice, at least the Chinese girls are cuter than the Japanese ones.

Yes, but between work and the sea, the time to write is scarce. I'm hoping for the weekend, especially since yesterday they pressured me for monthly reviews on the local fanzine.

I finally downloaded it.....mmmhh am I the only one who thinks that apart from the autosuggestive effect of Sleep, there’s not much here? I mean, you can catch a glimpse of something, but the sound is practically metallic. Let’s be clear, that’s not a problem in itself, but I expected something with richer and less metallic sounds. However, I must say it’s listenable.

I received it from Amazon last week. The artwork is nice too. At the moment, on the psych side, I'm enjoying the latest from La Otracina and especially the latest from Grails.

I only know in the metal scene, but in general I think at least Pizzicato Five are way more famous, and now even Boris.
Interpol Our Love To Admire

From what I gather from various reviews, followers of the revival wave and Interpol in particular consider the first album a masterpiece. As I said, I don't consume 80's wave sounds much, but their debut made it easier for me to digest. I saw them twice in 2002 before people really got into them, and I must say they were better live than on record. But they were a bunch of losers who only they (this is my personal take; I've heard people call the bassist "bono"... no comment, especially considering how stereotypically 80's his movements were on stage). However, even back then, I couldn't understand the hype. I especially wondered, "Will we remember this album outside of personal attachments?" I mean, it seems to me like music with a very short expiration date. Often exaggerated due to the lack of valid musical offerings in the last six years at least. That said, if someone adores Joy Division and Television, the first one satisfies them (especially since the first single had the SAME riff as Marquee Moon), just like I really like bands like Comets on Fire that revisit psychedelic sounds from the late '60s and early '70s. The problem is contextualizing, i.e., realizing that these are albums and bands that fundamentally, given the explicit references, won't be remembered. Or maybe they will, considering the media coverage, a bit like what will happen with the first Strokes album in ten years and so on… apologize for the slightly indecent flow.

Well, if it’s from last year, it sounds a bit old. Just like the Apollo 440 stuff from the late '90s.
