Kiyoshi Kurosawa Cure
Voto:
this little gem deserved more, damn it! The last time I saw it was in '98, during a solo exhibition of the director. It struck me a lot, especially because at that time, aside from Tsukamoto, there was very little available from Japanese underground cinema. And Kiyoshi was also very nice and self-deprecating. I would love to find it again... does anyone know if it's available on Italian DVD or even just on DVD?
Takashi Miike Ichi The Killer

sent in preview now 6 years ago at the Far East in Udine. What can I say, the video realization of everything I would have ever wanted to see in terms of brutality. A girl fainted during the scene with the severed nipple to the whore (I hope you have the uncensored Japanese version). It remains (even though it's a comic - which is to be expected since it's based on the homonymous manga) one of my favorites from Miike alongside Visitor Q. Here, the violence is so explicit and playful that I don’t understand those who tell me they couldn't watch it. For me, it remains a comedic - grotesque film, with absolutely memorable scenes (the beating of the prostitute, the tongue-cutting followed by Kakihara's phone call, Tsukamoto the bodybuilder, and many others) and, in my opinion, completely disconnected from Artaud or our social context, which has nothing to do with it. This, like all other Miike films, are absolutely and incontrovertibly rooted in Japanese social reality. Everyone can draw Western parallels, but they remain works whose only reference is contemporary Japan. This is precisely Miike's strength for me.
The Electric Flag The Trip (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Voto:
I didn't know the soundtrack was by the Electric Flag. I downloaded the film (actually because I found it but at outrageous prices along with Angels on Wheels). But excuse me, aside from the 1960s fascination that engulfs me, for example, More by Babette Schroeder deals with the drug world in a less stereotypical way. I mean, both are sensationalist, but this one more so. But is this where the bad trip scene is with the guys turning into zombie-like beings? And damn, I wouldn't want to confuse it with that other film where Strawberry Alarm Clock and Seeds appear... what was it called... help!!!

Fuck you turbocazzone, in the end, I really like this album. I guess I'll have to get a hold of it somehow.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band Trout Mask Replica

To be honest, Vercingetorix, I often think like you, but it seems there is truly someone who listens to it repeatedly and loves it. I admire the intention, the cerebral nature (because unfortunately, it doesn't provoke any physical reaction in me; listening to this album reminds me of the work of an entomologist studying a rare but dead beetle) and its expressive aims. But the first time I said: WHAT A GREAT LOAD OF CRAP! And indeed, this record was made, let's say, on commission; otherwise, I would hardly have written about it. I also consider Safe As Milk to be superior in the sense that it is more expressive, it communicates with the world (I mean, because it is fundamentally "simple"), while this one doesn’t say anything to communicate. Well, I'm rambling, but perhaps the importance and purpose of the work lie precisely in the debates and discussions it generates and has generated over these 38 years.

You know I read that thing, but I saw Tommy once when I was 20, and honestly, he sucked, so I never saw him again... at this point, I need a loan from my older rockstar brother-in-law.
String Driven Thing The Machine That Cried

Finally found them. Master, I owe you a dinner; I had been searching for these for a while, and after your advice, I worked hard to find them... and surprise! They are much better than I expected. A step above a lot of old, overhyped stuff. I've been listening to them nonstop for three days.
Groundhogs Thank Christ For The Bomb

Ah, they’re playing at the Roadburn festival in the Netherlands in April. I recommend the EMI reissue with three live bonus tracks, one of which is a truly devastating top of the pops.

Well done, super, gap filled. I've been practicing for a possible recording of this album for about three years now, I had almost given up. Also because after getting "Split" I must say it has almost overtaken this one in my preferences. Eccentric Man was also played by the (im)mondo generator live. But damn, on Split there’s Cherry Red, which is devastating.
