John Woo Hard Boiled
Voto:
In the first 90, I went crazy for all his films. This along with The Killer were my favorites. Damn, but can we talk about the opening shootout in the tea room???? I don't want to say something stupid, but I think it's on HBO. Damn, the bad guys flee up the stairs and what do they do to get through? Not like in American movies where they hit with the butt of the gun, no, they are TRUE BADASSES and shoot directly in the head of the patrons!!! GENIUS AND POETRY! And what about the final shootout in the hospital? With patients on crutches rushing out and criminals shooting at them for no reason from the windows (if I'm not mistaken, one of them pulls out an impossibly bulky belt-fed machine gun and shoots into the crowd). I liked the American phase less and less...

just heard after a sudden blog download. Strangely alienating and you speak well with your gaze turned to nothing. Interesting but needs to be chewed over.

Well, after self-voting, it's time to vote for you… well, between this and Dirt, it's a tough battle. A case for a tripod was getting me down; I’d love to hear it again now, 10 years later.

I'll read it later, Nino, but many friends have told me a lot about this album. Let's hope it's decent, considering that so far this new year I haven't heard anything that's even barely sufficient.
Boris Heavy Rocks
Voto:
I have officially decided that I only moderately like the seriously dizzy Boris from Flood or the hyper 60's ones from Rainbow. Sun Baked Snowcave makes my garden plants wilt, Pink interferes with my erections, Heavy Rocks just completely flattens me without a chance to respond, and Akuma no Uta is somewhere in between the two. The latter seems uninteresting for now, it just makes my neighbor wilt.
Carlo Vanzina Sapore di mare
Voto:
I sincerely hope the Vanzina brothers do not heed your appeal. There is already a garbage emergency in Naples; I hope they desist. Your analyses always seem very detached and not like those of an '80s fan, because from what I read in your profile, that's what you aim for. But since I never believe anyone who makes statements of this kind, I think the final remark could actually be directed at you. Are you trying to mask your desire to praise this stuff with a detached analysis (which is, by the way, well-balanced), because you're afraid of the avalanche of crap that might erupt from user comments? Take it as a provocation, Paolo, and not a judgment; whether you like it or not, the only way to analyze this film is through this lens, or through insults... but I have always been a fan of Woody Allen.
Richard Linklater Waking Life

I saw it at the Venice Film Festival.... a bit of a headache, but only due to the visual impact. For the rest, I was tense and living on intellectual wankery. Rewatched it recently, it has some fascinating sparks. In my opinion, it's better than A Scanner Darkly, not in terms of technical execution, but because it failed to translate Dick's book (but here there’s no real blame, the book is unfilmable in my opinion).

night sun I don't recognize, the Japanese honestly don't mean much to me. Oversold everywhere, in my opinion they are worth half of what they claim... I think everyone falls a bit into the oriental fascination, there are interesting things but also a lot of stuff that's a bit x, anonymous, and superfluous.
The Clash London Calling

"When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting in death row"

Absolutely great, both when they played punk and when they seriously did everything else (dub and reggae foremost).

I got to know the haters through my girlfriend, who was really into them. Hearing them years ago would have had a different effect; hearing them now (the same goes for Wellwater) sounds dated to me... Well, supersoul, you may be acidic, but I agree with giving scores that are lacking rather than exaggerated. Also, because there are very few masterpieces around.
