My Smashing are over with Siamese Dream and a couple of tracks from Mellon. I don't think I even have this album anymore, maybe a TDK somewhere.

This album has been on the verge of being released for like ten years! I was listening to it earlier on my way to work, it’s nice, but I’ll take my time with it. Vote pending.

I’m going off memory (which means a 75% margin of error), but there’s something before this, like a homonym, and 25...Tab seems to be earlier recordings, but released after this. In my opinion, up to Dopes to Infinity they count, maybe that’s what brings together a bit of the Magnet thought, but for example, I really like Dopes as well.

@Azzo: we think very similarly, I'm becoming quite cynical with new releases and perhaps too critical, but in my opinion, there’s a strong presence of blindfolds as you mentioned, which is acceptable up to a certain age, but then it becomes ridiculous. And I'm not talking about the Portishead, but generally. And you're right when you say that we "defend a great record but not a band"; in fact, if I name bands I love, almost all of them are those I listened to until I was 20, maybe 25. And come on, nobody mentions the self-titled album by QOTSA and puts it above R or Songs!

Look, I have to honestly say that I still haven't listened to it repeatedly, so maybe I'll change my mind... but not having loved to madness any of the previous ones, I think it'll be hard to lift my spirits back up. Anyway, I believe there's a desire among all of us listeners to find that masterpiece album, regardless of its objective value (which is obviously a contradiction in terms when it comes to music), almost like a form of mass self-suggestion. But I would be a bit trivial and snobbish if I really thought that everyone who likes this record has been influenced by the enthusiastic reviews everywhere. In my opinion, it's a reaction to the feeling that many listeners, let's say over thirty, have had (I hope) for a while now, which is that beautiful albums just aren’t coming out anymore. I may be pessimistic, but it seems to me that we live in a world of singles; I can't name one entire album that says something interesting. And the discussion about Portishead is just a random example.

I think it's just you and me saying that the latest Portishead is a loud pain in the ass! I don't understand all the fuss behind it. I should try to listen to it (especially since back then it was more on the Massive-Tricky side than Portisdepressionhead).

<<X JAPAN are a must for every rocker, regardless of the genre>>. I mean, Panapp, this seems like a pretty personal reflection. I have Japanese rocker friends and they don’t care about this stuff at all. I mean, those who listen to Guitar Wolf don’t love X Japan. Oh, and nowadays you find metalheads who listen to dub, so anything is possible.

I read Ale's review, and while I enjoyed the film, I understand the criticism regarding the essentialist distinction between Good and Evil, which I don't like either. But I also have to say that it's a film, even without too many political pretensions (to be honest, I was so repulsed by Goodbye Lenin that I didn't expect much from this one), perhaps because I've lost the idea that films can ever really delve into certain historical periods or contemporary issues with the dots on the i's (I don't know, in my deep ignorance, "Indagine su un cittadino al di sopra di ogni sospetto" comes to mind), so unless the film's message is heavily against my pseudo political beliefs, I give it less weight. Probably wrong. But I overlooked the kind of karmic fate of the protagonists.

At the time of its release, I was really into it, but then I got a bit tired/exhausted. Still, it's always interesting, and it seems like they're quite impressive live (the Cherry Red cover on the latest one is nice).
