don't believe Sylvian, I'm more "sappy" and melodic than it seems, once every couple of years I come across an album that touches my sentimental strings and for this I reward it, whether it's long-lasting or not.

To me, the latest one seems more of an evolution of Person Pitch by Panda Bear; it lacks a bit of variety and the sunny atmospheres of Panda, and, above all, it lacks the guitarist. And I don't listen to bands without a kitara!!!!!!! Anyway, I've never been a big fan of the animal collective, many good insights, some great ideas, but stretched out over too many albums. And the best ones are definitely tricky/boring pour moi.

I had promised myself to download it, but I started feeling nauseous hearing it praised by everyone and everything. I'll wait a couple more months until I go to Japan and pick it up for two euros used, you know!

No, I think it’s really a hearing problem! Just kidding, I saw it and laughed at it ;)

but in fact NOTHING can objectively make an album beautiful; influence, longevity perhaps, can be objective, but unfortunately (or fortunately) nothing can make the judgment of an album objective. And don't get me wrong, I throw out all the charts and I even make my own on my personal sheet, but fundamentally it's a game, nothing more. Of course, you know what I think of the latest Mountain, and for once I agree...

no, but it doesn't prove anything about the actual value of an album, or rather it doesn’t make it beautiful in an "objective" way. Maximum respect for both Portishead and Vampire, I just can't listen to them both (but at least the Portishead one isn't fluff like the other).

Ondarock and BU, you could have avoided… anyway, I don't understand Sylvian why you insist on this ranking thing as if it legitimizes (or not) the objective beauty of an album. Fortunately, music is an overwhelmingly subjective matter, even though we all (us included) try to impose our tastes on others, meaning we try to objectify it. That said, I repeat, I unexpectedly like this album a lot, it's not incredibly long-lasting, but it has some enchanting melodies.

@macaco: I don't adhere to any ideology; I might ethically follow some ideals that could broadly be defined as communist, but of course it would be foolish and anachronistic not to acknowledge that the political application was the equivalent of a dictatorship, with all that entails. And in fact, I wasn't writing that. @Alexander: I read a bit of *Il Sangue dei Vinti*, did you? Some things written seemed to be placed there on purpose by someone who has long renounced his leftist past (and I'm not talking about the facts or data, but the subtle insinuations), a common phenomenon among many journalists who reach a certain age. The problem is entirely theirs; I never trust turncoats (and this isn't a matter of self-criticism; in my opinion, the book transcended that to switch to the other side). I might have been wrong, but not due to rigidity of thought. Unfortunately for you, I haven't been reasoning in a "us vs them" logic for a while now, and I try (when I can) to contextualize and relativize.

Wow, we are two generations at opposite ends, in the sense that I was a grunge metalhead in my teenage years, and the '80s were THE ENEMY. Then, over time, I softened a bit, but I still struggle to digest that snare drum and those sdleng sdleng guitars (not to mention various Bontempi keyboards...Farfisa for life). It's clear that Joy Division (and the '80s) are not just what I've written, but I have a sort of block when it comes to certain "cold" sounds they evoke. As for the Espers, no comment. I'm contacting the armed wing of Opus Dei; you are a heretic! Anyway, I understand they may come off as bland, but they're one of the few bands that touch certain chords for me.

It's the first smart thing you do in here Il_paolo. Not the comment, obviously. Au revoir, Hasta la vista, Sayonara, Farewell, etc etc etc...
