I haven't read the comic, so I take into account soupersoul's comment on the (wow) differences in the story. I didn't like the film because, despite the narrative potential, it's too rushed, the actors are completely miscast (the female character is utterly useless and deserves to be beaten with a shovel to shake off that monotelluric expressiveness), and the direction is just barely adequate. 1 and a half.
Mel Gibson Apocalypto
Voto:
The latest Gibson film is criticized (even by you at the beginning of the review) solely because his movies are based on "a part" of history; they are micro-stories that explore a more personal rather than collective dimension, even in terms of narrative space. All of this constitutes something original that may not be understood in its intentions. The Passion of the Christ fits this pattern, and in my opinion, it is a 5 out of 5 movie. The best film about the figure of Christ, hands down. I still haven't seen this one, but I'm confident despite all those who have criticized it.

I didn't like it so much that I regretted buying it. It's glaringly obvious how little Jodorowsky there is and how much too much Claudio Argento (producer of the film) is present in this movie. Absolutely obvious. The murders are reminiscent of Argento's style. The fundamental futility of the story reflects Argento's style. The cinematography, staging, and direction of the actors are also patterned after Argento's style. There's very little Jodo and too much Argento in this film. As Jodo himself admitted in the interview included in the DVD extras. My 2, however, is really a 1.5.
