Given the blend of style, aesthetics, and outcomes, Blair Witch Project is the greatest contemporary horror. No ifs or buts. Pure concept. The fear of the unseen, the imagined, and even further, the anticipated. The fear of the night. The fear of entering an abandoned house without ever having seen anything, apart from the ABSENCE. The greatest contemporary horror film. Cannibal Holocaust has nothing to do with it. If we’re going to challenge the "found footage" device, we should point the finger at Manzoni and those who came and lived before. Don’t be ridiculous. BWP is not just a film; it is a fact of contemporary reality. A frontier now crossed and demolished in the use of media, in the power of media. Something that goes beyond the message and becomes TERROR. If it doesn't resonate, it’s not due to a lack of bite in the film or its shortcomings. If it doesn't resonate, it's because one isn't receptive enough to certain stimuli. Even to the millimeter movements underlying the composition of plots and meanings (or subtexts) of an artistic artifact. Some things shouldn't even need explaining.

You hit us right on the mark, ThirdEye. With the addition that (from my point of view) ObZen represents a full return to the past. Something that, in my opinion, Meshuggah absolutely didn't need.

the wife is killed (Bardem checks that his shoes are clean when he leaves the house) and the cowboy is killed by the Mexicans (or by Bardem himself, the event is not didactic and explicit and that’s better) because he got distracted chatting -and perhaps trying to get laid- with the hot chick sunbathing by the edge of the pool who had asked him if he knew how to "ride".
