Takashi Miike Audition

great film Audition, but my favorites remain Ichi, Visitor Q, (Gozu NO for the entirety but definitely YES for some scenes), Izo, and especially the incredible and superb Imprint.

unlikely comparisons to Sonic Youth?? I mean, Daydream Nation?? just listen to a random track and then say the word "unlikely" again.

But Poletti, to say that films should all be judged the same way as films, and to reiterate this while continuing to talk about movies from 4 generations ago ("Some Like It Hot", "North by Northwest") as if they were the 2 films with the best screenplay ever written, is misleading and blinkered. I understand that works from the past represent for you the highest expression of the concept of art applied to cinema, but a film cannot be evaluated "as a film" and thus always with the same measure. Aside from the fact that, as gbrunoro rightly points out, this is a non-professional but passionate community, and it is for this reason, I add, that it withstands the test of time and the criticisms of those who would want it to be more "square." Rather, a film, by its very nature as a work inscribed (whether one likes it or not) in a socio-historical discourse, must also be judged from an aesthetic point of view according to the criteria of its time firstly. This is to remain in the technical-critical field. Perhaps you have never seriously and without detachment asked yourself why films like those you adore today could not exist. But the answer is inherent in the date stamped on the very question itself.

I know the second episode better. The characters, however, are an integral part of my childhood. :-) Please note that the 5's for these films are not sentimental ratings but "poetic" ratings.
