Carmen Consoli Stato di Necessità
Voto:
Useless record. Carmen Consoli has a voice that makes me feel old, I don't know why...

completely useless and out-of-place review, which desperately and ironically (but the review, as banal and senseless as it is, becomes unconsciously self-ironic) tries to analyze a Symphonic Epic Metal album based on wrong assumptions. A review that claims to criticize the superficiality of the album when in fact it is the first to be superficial. The CD in question is really nice (in the most positive sense of the term), excellently arranged, truly evocative, and very, very beautiful. As for the lyrics, I agree with Psymon, who in the previous comment praises their citationism. Sure, they always focus on the usual themes (good versus evil, love, chivalric legends, honor, and noble virtues), but then again, in power metal (and I hope in music in general), music comes before anything else.
Deicide Amon/Feasting the beast
Voto:
mayhem is great and writes very well, the deicidio are nice (poor them) and they certainly manage to build excellent riffs and tracks (musically)... however, it's almost impossible not to take their lyrics into consideration and songs like "Fuck your god" are inevitably ridiculous.
Hammerfall Renegade
Voto:
Well... I believe that Hammerfall is indeed a great band... sure, they're not very technical and not very original, but they're definitely way more exciting than hundreds of other bands... and they should be approached with a sense of fun; for serious listening, there are Nevermore and Dream Theater.
Manowar The Triumph Of Steel
Voto:
hahahaha well come on spectacular... at least you can’t say they’re not entertaining...
Manowar The Triumph Of Steel

Exactly... there are those who don't like Joe Satriani (...) and those who appreciate Manowar.
Anyway, the guitarist is David Shankle, not Ross the Boss anymore.

Well, you see, you just don't get it... damn, if De-maio, Adams, etc. aren't "barbarians" (my tone is very ironic)... have you seen the 4 DVDs that just came out?? Of course, you have to immerse yourself in their imagery (perhaps pathetic and childish); but come on, Manowar are Manowar, and I believe their beauty lies precisely in their simplicity, in their self-aggrandizement, (sometimes, but in a positive sense) in their ridiculousness. So: great Manowar!

Great album and a really good review. And anyway (I'm addressing diamond_darrell) of course they are the masters of their genre, you said it yourself: "they are super fast, and then the solos, and the double bass, and damn those high notes." If only there were more (exciting) bands like Manowar, with their flashy and pompous imagery and their covers, with their fucking barbarity and (above all) with their super fast music, full of solos and high screams. So: huge Manowar!
John Petrucci Suspended Animation
Voto:
I didn't think Petrucci's solo album would be so good. Surprised, excited, and impressed (by the technique, of course...). He couldn't, and indeed didn't hold up, to the comparison with Vai and Satriani during the G3... anyway, great job John.
Domine Stormbringer Ruler
Voto:
I really liked this album, maybe it's easier to listen to than the last one (reviewed by yours truly), but it really has some nice ideas. Sure, it's the classic power album, but Domine seem to have a more "true" sound, more straightforward, and that's why I like them a lot. (You can't say that For Evermore is bad... come on...)
