I disagree. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece of melodic death metal; it's excellent, yes, but for me, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity always remain a step below At the Gates. Furthermore, I would like to point out that the first EP by At the Gates dates back to 1991, even though it wasn't exactly what we consider melodic death metal, while DT and IF made their first appearances in 1992 and 1994 respectively, so they are almost contemporaries, given that all three formed between 1989 and 1990. Moreover, I believe that At the Gates have always had that hint of intrinsic black metal and, even more distantly, a thrashy vein that has given them an extra edge compared to the others.

Really poor review, the album for me doesn't go beyond a 3.5 – power masked as fake death that turns out to be a bit boring in the long run. The tracks are engaging, but I don't find much originality in them.
