Come on, let's not be controversial, maybe Walter meant to say that often people stop at appearances (this is fucking true) :(

Strange phenomenon of flashiness, how come Norwegian blacksters don't reach the masses and don't climb the charts? Yet they certainly have plenty of "image" and stage presence to sell. An exception that proves the rule? The floor is yours, prophet Walter.

It's true, sometimes the most unexpected reviews generate hilarious delayed "chats"...

PS. Music should not reach "the people," but "the hearts of the people"; therefore, if what reaches most hearts does not reach mine, it means I will seek something else, and that something else becomes more important and interesting to me, and that is what I will remember.

Your reasoning is flawed, dear Walter. "If these guys spent half the time they use to style their hair playing music, maybe they would play better..." taken from Beavis & Butthead - stage presence can be important, but it's not the clothes that make the monk. Regarding the equation "little known=interesting," it's not true; it can be, but the judgment must remain objective, as the opposite can also be true: "known=interesting," but these are not absolute laws.

Good review. I haven't had the chance to listen to any CC yet, and every time I see a review here on DeB I promise myself to do it. Hopefully this time will be the one, if I remember.

I believe that discussing value derived from sales charts is perfectly pointless, even when referring to 15 years ago. Maybe in the '60s it was as you say, Walter, but in the '80s I really don't think so. Just because a group didn't top the charts doesn’t necessarily mean they are terrible; in fact, most of the time it’s the opposite, and there are dozens and dozens of fitting examples for this. The examples cited by ajejebrazorf refer to advertising/marketing that knows how to turn shit into chocolate. Here, no one has gone off the rails, but I believe that many of us who, in our musical experiences, have "studied" the phenomena of the '70s and '80s have not held back the fact that in the '80s there were only the renowned pop artists, symbols (for the masses) of that time, or that we are rock-centric.

Significantly clearer, unfortunately that’s how it is; as a symbol of that era in a general sense, we have various Jacksons, Talk Talk, Tears for Fears, etc. But in the end, it also becomes a personal thing; it's not just the collective imagination that matters. For me, talking about the 80s immediately brings to mind the Bay Area thrash and so many other wonderful things that align more with my tastes, and I'm glad that the 80s weren't just about pop. Perhaps in the 70s, the distinction and variety of musical genres were not such as to allow for such a phenomenon, and thus the "icons" of the 70s have remained so for everyone.
