The difference, if we want to make one, is between those who know or want to receive a certain kind and those who simply do not want to or are not interested. The "problem" is that these people are so flattened by listening to those 4 or 5 ultra-renowned bands that they blissfully ignore everything else. I don’t know who would "dare" (so to speak, obviously) to laugh at the sound of the Velvet Underground, but this is the typical attitude of the people I just mentioned. Try playing Arcturus for a power metal fan, and you’ll see him run away, for example. It’s clear that the superficial audience - because that’s what we’re talking about - appreciates "Smoke on the Water" more than "Heroin," but this has little to do with the production...

...that great masterpieces may be lost in oblivion is true. But that many people shy away from the genre "due to low quality," allow me to disagree: all these "refined ears" that demand advanced effects, I frankly (and without arrogance) do not see. Those who think in the way you mention are a minority; I know people who find Yes "heavy" and own all the live albums of DT and listen to them 24 hours a day... so if anything, it's an "excuse" regarding quality!

I’m listening to it at the moment, a bit of "Enslaved," perhaps a little disappointing, but at least not completely predictable (to be fair and out of respect for the name they carry).

Thank you for the clarifications, but everyone should come to terms with it :) because I still hear the sound of certain Dimmu Borgir and certain Dark Tranquillity... compared to other completely different records like "Eld," even though I don't like to make comparisons. It seems strange to me to have mistakenly pointed out "Hollow Inside," but it happens (age advances...)
Satyricon Now, Diabolical

I'm listening to it lately... it hasn't made me shout with joy, even though there are innovative ideas and frosty sounds (...in the worst sense). The turning point after "Nemesis divina" hasn’t always yielded commendable results, but "Now, diabolical" is an exception. Good review.

I don't know them, and I'm certainly not eager to listen to them (!): the usual webzines are praising them, just like always. A round of applause for the reviewer...

Dream Theater Dark Side Of The Dream

@zarathustra: no one establishes anything absolutely (I certainly don’t think so), it’s just a sincere evaluation I’m making, trying to motivate it. I don't like the Theater's voice; I find it too "soft" for my tastes, and I’m also convinced that in the long run it will tire even the most die-hard fan. Maybe I expressed myself poorly, but this is what I meant: aside from personal taste, to which I don’t refer further, otherwise I wouldn’t be writing here. It’s too structured, even a bit monotone, for a genre that, despite its classicism, should favor instinct, creativity untethered from technique, originality (Zappa was the most striking example, but also Schuldiner, and/or many others). I repeat, no one is saying it MUST be this way: it’s the same "problem" with "Balletto di Bronzo": excellent band, great technique, the voice might be beautiful (maybe), hyper-technical and melodious, but it fits in the context like pepper stew with cappuccino. At least, that’s how I feel (and I’m not the only one…) That it’s a personal opinion of mine (!), I don’t think it needs repeating – and whose should it be, otherwise?! I can only add, in all honesty, that thinking pedantically as a fan leads to the conclusion that Master of Puppets and Black Album are on the same level, or worse, that all albums from any band are masterpieces. In saying this, I don’t mean you’re doing that: I only emphasize it to highlight the motivations behind my comments, which may be a bit too aggressive, but necessary. Bye!
