And you got it right, Lux, even if it's not just because of the missing voice. Here Reznor shows more ability to synthesize (at least regarding the free version; as for the others, I don't know).

Maybe it's because I don't have high expectations from Reznor, but I didn't mind it (I listened to the free version). It may not be innovative or overly original, but it's well made. First of all, thank goodness his caricatured, grating voice isn't there; perhaps he's finally realized he can't sing. Moreover, he manages to avoid the lengthiness and redundancies that, for example, weighed down "The Fragile"; the tracks are shorter, more direct, less dragged out, less unnecessarily stretched. It doesn't make me shout masterpiece; it will be a conventional album, but I don't think it's that bad.

The plot is trivial, but in return, the orchestral reinterpretations of the pieces are enjoyable, and the excessive and "camp" staging works. More than a musical, it’s a parody of a musical.
