I'm no longer a fan due to reaching a certain age limit, but they're still one of my favorite groups; upon first listen, I too was a bit disappointed with the album, it seemed too monotonous. However, I couldn't resist the temptation of the cardboard edition and I must say that upon a more careful listen, I found many interesting things... not bad at all, in fact... I don't share your opinion on the lyrics though: they are very political and engaged!
