Simple Minds New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)/Sparkle In The Rain
Voto:
Ah, what nostalgia... it was '84, I was in the States, I was 17 (I was finishing my fourth year of high school there), and this was one of the few cassette tapes I managed to fit into my suitcases (which contained everything I needed to live for a year)... In the first few weeks, when culture shock hit, New Gold Dream was a decent lifeline. I had to listen to it in secret though, because there in Colorado the guys were all into metal, and this stuff was considered rather... sissy.

Anonymous, you didn’t understand what I was saying: I don’t contest the recovery of traditions; rather, I would say the opposite. What I contest is their arbitrary, convenient FALSIFICATION. The "past" that Burzum and various metalheads in tights evoke is pure invention, that’s all. The Norwegians are right to feel Viking, because they are. It’s just that the Vikings aren’t the ones from epic comics and black metal, got it?

Well... the review itself isn't bad, actually. It just seems strange to me that someone could talk about such a character without mentioning that he's a dangerous type. But on the other hand, I also struggle to understand how certain people can exist and how they manage to have a following. So the limit is mine.
I don't think the review promotes Nazism. Moreover, Vikernes - aside from his Nazi sympathies - fits into the same pot as the various Norwegian metal groups reviewed by wwwhatemoornet, in that imaginary "Viking" world populated by pagan gods like Odin, Thor, etc. and epic battles. To all the enthusiasts of the genre, I would recommend a visit to one of the Norwegian Viking museums, where you can see how - and it's not hard to imagine - the Viking people led a life that wasn't much different from that of their contemporaries: rather mundane. It would be a bit like someone inventing a metal genre inspired by the Etruscans, or the Romans, or god knows, the Sumerians... ridiculous, in short.

"Hvit Arisk Motstand" = Aryan White Resistance is the name of a group he was part of. I call him a Nazi, but I might be wrong; maybe he’s just a funny comedian.

This poor bastard is a shit neo-Nazi/satanist who, besides having killed a fellow metalhead, has burned several wooden churches (Stavkirker), including the beautiful one in Bergen – or at least that's how it seems. I don’t know if "the light will ever take him" (such darkness in the mind is hardly possible to brighten): for now, he has been taken by the Norwegian police, along with his mother, who is a neo-Nazi as well. I followed the story of his arrest "live" (I spend a lot of time in Norway), and in my opinion, beyond the crimes committed, a right-wing extremist, racist and "bad" like Varg "Greven" (the count) Vikernes doesn’t deserve your nice words. Neo-Nazis like him deserve only to be forgotten.

Anyway dear Cliff, I must also admit that your recent reviews show a marked increase in the attention you put into writing them. Congratulations, you're on the right track; getting your act together has paid off. Well done.

Error of the day: the feminine indefinite article "una" - when it precedes a word starting with a vowel - loses its final "a" and takes the apostrophe ("un'esplosione"). In the masculine form, however, both "uno" and "un" exist, so the apostrophe does not apply. Alright? Would you like to talk about it?

To avoid annoying you too much, from today I will point out just one mistake per review. Today's mistake (already discussed in the past, alas without results): the comma between subject and verb just doesn't belong there ("In fact, they, implement..."). Do you agree or do you want to discuss it?
