Did you know that "soluzione di continuità" means exactly the opposite of what you think? So, I felt like telling you this.

Fiola: the fact that on the streets there are more people worried about the gypsies than about attacks on the Constitution is perhaps one of the results of the information control by those who have built their electoral campaign also (and massively) on the fear of "foreign" crime? Another example: rapes have decreased in the last ten years and 6 times out of 10 are committed by Italians. Yet recently, just while an idiotic decree is passing that, among other things, legalizes the so-called "ronde," it seems that in Italy there is a full-blown emergency of rapes every day, preferably committed by Romanian citizens. What do we make of that?

Anatas, since you're at it, look and observe how the Mills case has been treated by our local media. It's a very instructive case.

In a way, I think we must even recognize a merit of Silvio: that of having clarified once and for all that our country is a joke and wants to remain one. He made this clear especially to us Italians, since the world had already suspected it for quite some time. The problem with jokes is that they eventually stop being funny. Especially for their protagonists.

@caz: almost all adult book lovers became that way because someone, when they were little, read at least a couple of books to them. Currently, I am my children’s audiobook, even though they are both able to read, and I completely understand them, because if I became an avid reader it's thanks to my personal audiobook, my mom. It's an immense pleasure to have a book read to you: and in the absence of a flesh-and-blood person, a CD can also work (usually the beautiful voice of the actor more than compensates). The only problem is that it requires concentration, while having your hands free can easily lead to distraction. But it's just a matter of training ;-)

This film is one of the worst misfortunes that has ever happened to an animal species.

A truly beautiful film, dark like very few. Everything you say about Cage is true, but he has managed to deliver another couple of remarkable performances: see "Wild at Heart" by Lynch and "Raising Arizona" by the Coen brothers. Aloha.

A bit off-topic, but not completely: I recently read Kersevan, Alessandra, "Lager Italiani. Pulizia etnica e campi di concentramento fascisti per civili jugoslavi 1941-1943", ("Documenti"), Roma, Nutrimenti, 2008, pp. 287. A very interesting read; even just to reflect on why the myth of "brava gente Italians" still exists, which allows some to write that "fascism rarely resorted to killing" and others to read it without vomiting. Aloha

They played on Saturday here in Bozen, but I couldn’t see them... it seems I missed out on something, after all.
