Well, I'm more and more convinced that the trip to Hollywood hasn't done him any good... High Tension was good, the remake of Craven's film was decent, this is weak, to say the least.

I don't completely agree; the movie made me want to read the book. And of course, the cliché of the book being 100 times better than the film holds true, and I expected that. After all, it wasn't easy to make a movie with such a complicated plot, so some simplifications and creative liberties from the director were to be expected. I haven't read the sequel yet, but I think I will go see the movie in 10 days and read the book only afterward.

You've got it right, I'm only at the second one of the 6 movies (which is quite remarkable, even more so than the first)... I've read various opinions about this, and they all agree that it's definitely strange and not very in line with what has been seen so far. As soon as I finish the anime (I'm three-quarters of the way through), I'll watch it.
